History Of Warmed Nuts And Ice Cream Sundae In Premium Cabin

Pre-Covid, warmed nuts and ice cream sundae were the standard on most of United's long haul premium cabin services. Not only United but correct me if I'm wrong but ALL US carriers that serve long haul. How, when and why did warm nuts and ice cream sundae's become so ubiquitous to flying United and other US carriers? Other foreign carriers that I've flown also serve ice cream but its usually served plain like on Swiss or directly in the container.
