US-BKK, UA-UA-NH, Will UA check-in, also check-in for NH?

I’m trying to get a simple question answered and I’ve gotten 4 different answers from United and a Travel Agent. This shouldn’t be this hard. I booked DSM-ORD-HND-BKK; the BKK segment is on ANA. When I check in on the United App, will it check in for the ANA flight as well? Or do I have to use the ANA app. The reservation will not show in the ANA app; i’m assuming thats b/c I have my mileageplus number in my PNR. I’ve been dealing with this for several hours and it really should be a simple answer and no one seems to know. I’m sure plenty of people connect in Japan onto BKK. Someone please help. Thank you.

Check-in is extremely overrated. Even if you weren’t checked in, when you got to the airport in Tokyo, it’d be easily fixed.

The answer is, assuming that you do not have an overnight stay at HND, you will be checked in all the way to BKK. However, you should still stop at the ANA transfer desk at HND, and/or at the gate, to ensure that they have record of any checked luggage you have, and because they may want to exchange your boarding passes for ANA boarding passes.

As for it appearing in the ANA app — where you will not be able to check in — try looking it up with your last name and the ANA confirmation number, which you should be able to find on the itinerary page on United.com or in the reservation on the United app.

You check in with the first operating carrier. UA should be able to give you an NH boarding pass. If for some strange reason they are not, you can always get one at the NH transfer desk. And as jsloan noted, if you have checked bags, you'll want to confirm the transfer with NH.

Looks fine in the ANA app, my flight is at 12:05AM after a 8 hour layover. Which really sucks.

I do this routing all the time - but from EWR usually - and UA will be able to give you your NH BP when you check in - I’ve never not gotten one….

Occasionally I’ve had issues with LH connections and visas - but NH is pretty good….

Thanks everyone - since i’m not entering Japan I’m assuming there are lounge options, there were some options in another thread. Been flying 25 years, all on UA, first time on another airline. Sorry if my questions are silly - thanks for your help.

I bought a red-carpet pass for a 3 1/2 layover in chicago I figure I can get help there if something goes wrong, and I can always post here too. Been posting since 2006 and always received the best advice. Thank you everyone.

Sadly not my experience, flying ATL-EWR-NRT-BKK. UA in ATL and EWR unable to print the NH BP and punted the issue to the NH desk in NRT, which had some difficulty due to a last minute UA flight change. 😮

Do you have UA status or are you flying in business?

Flown UA/NH itin many times and always get an ANA BP from the transfer desk (just for fun, since UA always prints one.

I love flying NH in J. FA's, food, everything is just spectacular.

The UA reservation details on the UA website and in the appwill have the NH record locator. The email with your reservation should as well. This can be used to access the NH website (but there is no reason to)

You will get the NH BP in the States, at the airport at a minimum.

Yes, in pre-merger UA, the Red Carpet Club was the original name of the United Club.

I meant United Club.

DSM-ORD-HND-BKK I check in tomorrow morning 630sih we’ll see how it goes.

Edit to add: if I’m reading the travel ready center at no place do I need to have a negative covid test; my proof of vaccination is in my wallet and I think I uploaded it months ago when I made the reservation (May maybe)

The disadvantage of transferring through HND to BKK is the 7 hour connection, as the UA flight does not really time well with NH.

You do not need a negative Covid test. 🦠
