MileagePlus in Japan requiring airport transfer for a connection - help!
Hi, I'm looking at a mileageplus awards in December to fly from Sapporo, Japan back to Houston, TX, and the only saver awards available require a transfer between Tokyo's Narita & Haneda airports. The itinerary would be Sapporo --> Haneda and then Narita --> Houston. Does anyone know how exactly this works? Do the passengers have to pick up their bags in Haneda airport and transport themselves to Narita airport and check the bags in? Or does the airline take care of sending bags between airports? Or does the airline provide the direct transportation?
Thanks!
Marisa

You transfer yourself - many threads on it if you search (title is HND-NRT but same idea in reverse):
Consolidated Haneda (HND) to/from Narita (NRT) transfers thread
You will need permission to enter Japan as well. One would hope that will be more standard by December - but as of now some risk in booking that connection.

Hi, I'm looking at a mileageplus awards in December to fly from Sapporo, Japan to Houston, TX, and the only saver awards available require a transfer between Tokyo's Narita & Haneda airports. The itinerary would be Sapporo --> Haneda (All Nippon) and then Narita --> Houston. There's options for 3.5 to 4.5 connecting time, so the timing should work. But anyone know how exactly this works logistically? Do the passengers have to pick up their bags in Haneda airport and transport themselves to Narita airport and check the bags in again? Or does the airline take care of sending bags between airports? Does the airline provide the direct transportation from secure place in one airport to another?
I called GS twice and neither agent could confirm the process. One thought there must be a bag transfer service between airports, the other wasn't sure.
Hoping someone on this GS thread has the scoop from past experience!
Thanks!
