Generally PQPs are earned flying
  • Paid flights -- Base fare + surcharge
  • Including flights ticketed and operated by *A partners
  • Economy Plus seating or subscriptions
  • Preferred seat purchases
  • MileagePlus Upgrade Award co-pays
  • Paid upgrades on flights operated by United and United Express
but there are two additional methods for earning them
1. Some Chase UA Branded credit will earn PQPs
and there is a bonus promo Bonus PQP Promo for MP Chase Cardholders - Q2 2022 -- targeted & variable bonus
Chase MP credit card PQPs can be used to achieve all earned status levels but for 1K you also need to meet the PQF requirement. The PresidentialPlus cards PQPs can be used to meet the PQP only 1K requirement

2. You can purchase PQPs via Premier Accelerator
Consolidated Award / Premier Accelerator questions
United Airlines Award/Premier Accelerator Rates [2022]
Note prices tend to increase significantly at the end of the year

UA has normally offered a status buy-up program in January, tends to run on the expensive side. No details are announced until mid-January
Last year's program - 2022 UA MP elite status buy-up offers(for higher status than earned in 2021)

Purchasing an Economy Plus subscription for $599 gives you 599 PQPs according to United. Probably just as pointless as award accelerator (except for members trying to qualify for Silver since they don't get E+ selection at booking), but you will be bending zero rules this way.

I cannot post complete URLs yet, but you can find this information under "What Economy Plus purchases earn PQP?" at United's website slash ual/en/us/fly/help/faq/premier-qualifying-points-pqp.html

You will earn PQP for Economy Plus purchases, whether a one-time purchase or a subscription

PQP from one-time Economy Plus purchases credit to the member who travels in Economy Plus seating. PQP from Economy Plus subscriptions credit to the holder of the subscription within 48 hours of payment. The PQP you earn will be equal to the price of the purchase or subscription.

Just two non-flying options, credit card PQPs or purchasing PQPs from UA -- details in the wiki

Each thread can have it's own wiki
If it exists, it is accessible at the top of the thread -- look for the word wiki

Year-end Status Runs - are bulk fares useful?

I'd like to keep my 1K status so I'll likely have to do some status runs at the end of the year (I wish United would somehow just let us buy the status instead of making pointless flights but that's another matter).

I think I will likely do some NYC-HNL flights because they are very long (and expensive) and don't require having to deal with borders.

I have heard that there are travel agents that can sell us bulk tickets that will give us the same amount of PQPs but for less dollars, sometimes even half price. Is this true? Does anyone know a travel agent that can do this?

Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

but you can can purchase PQPs via Premier Accelerator, see wiki for more details

Bulks fares may give you more bang for the buck

Bulk fares can be have for UA flights as a part of a travel package -- airfare , lodging , ... --- thru United Vacations (note this a third party, not UA), Expedia, ... travel agents can do also.

Bulk or regular P fares on AC flights can also yield better than 1 PQP per $. But make you understand the PQP caps for partners

Seeing your desire to buy status, why not just upfare to J/F fare bucket instead flying 20 hours roundtrip between EWR and HNL.

How many PQPs are you talking about here? What 1K benefits do you expect to be able to take advantage of next year?

There used to be a hack, although must admit it has been a few years, where you purchase the ticket, then elect to purchase additional miles including PQP., and then cancel the ticket (within the 24 hours). It is expensive but if I really needed the spend at the end of the year. It only works for PQPs and not PQFs. As I said it has been a number of years and it was expensive but you got the PQPs without needing to fly, assuming you have met the 4 United segments.

Edit: I think it is called Accelerator

I haven't honestly seen a lot of domestic bulk fares; they are mostly international. If you can get EWR-HNL r/t on a bulk P fare then that nets you 2988 PQP, if my calculation is correct.

YYZ/YUL to HNL on AC can net 3000 PQP based on routing on a $2k ticket.

If you want to fly overseas, NYC-SIN in PE can net a lot of PQPs. JFK-HND-SIN-HND-JFK - 4k PQP at $1500 cost

Really? Please give more details how I can get 4k PQP for $1500. I'll fly international for that!

At the moment I need 10K PQPs. By the end of the year maybe 8K or 9K, unless they have another giveaway. I fly quite a bit but it's all my own money so I use a lot of awards and cheap flights.
I know, it's a bit much, I keep asking myself how much better 1K is than Gold but I've gotten so used to 1K lately. I love pre-boarding and being near the top of the upgrade list. The 1K phone line worked magic when I missed my connection in Houston recently.

With that routing there's nearly 3k PQP for premium economy on NH, around that price (can be a bit less). Trying to figure out the 4k part, am I missing something? Is this taking the 750 PQP cap into account?
Can also get more PQP though with an interesting routing.
