Totally Late to the Party - OnePass to MileagePlus

I hadn’t travelled by air in some time, but have flown with both Continental and United. I had about 40K of OnePass Miles. I tried to sign into United, so see if they transferred, and after some assistance via an online agent, I was able to access the United Account. I’m at 0. Is there a way to get the old miles back? Am I just too late to the game? I thought my old OnePass didn’t expire.

thank you in advance for help or suggestions

Maybe they didn't, but when they became Mileage Plus miles, they were subject to the MP expiration rules at the time. You can call MP service to reinstate your miles. For 40K miles, it should cost $200. There is also a reinstatent challenge where you can get your miles back for $100 plus one United flight within 90 days, or getting and using an MP credit card.

Note that since 2019, MP miles no longer expire so you shouldn't have to deal with this again.

In practice they did not but the rules allowed for expiration

After the merger in 2012, the UA rules (until 2019) allowed for expiration. Your miles probably expirated in 2014, maybe 2015 if you have no activity after the merger.
UA at the time allowed for an up to 18 month after expiration to re-instate miles. There were various way to re-instate, some without cost but that was more than 5 years ago.

You best chance is to contact the UA MileagePlus Service Center and ask if there are any options (and determine if it is worth it. 40K miles could book a domestic round trips worth $300-$600 -- then have lost a lot of value in the past 10+ years.
Call MP Customer Support during USA business hours and ask for a supervisor to help.

I wouldn't be surprised if OnePass info has long ago been archived and not easily accessible to the point where nobody would even attempt it.

Considering that MP was effectively merged into OnePass and OnePass FFNs were the ones that survived, that would be rather surprising.

I just realized that I can still recite my old 11-digit UA MileagePlus number by heart, and I shed a tear.

It hasn't, given the system UA uses to lookup/view customer information is still the old continental system with all references of continental find->replaced with United Airlines, including this gem of a copyright line that hasn't been updated in 10 years, but clearly shows the old continental HQ address..

Mine started with three zeros also. United was the first Frequent Flyer program I joined, at the suggestion of a friend whose mother was a travel agent.
