CHICAGO, May 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today announced the opening of its new, nearly 30,000 square-foot United Club location at Newark Liberty International Airport, offering travelers a modern design, enhanced amenities and culinary offerings, locally-sourced art and furniture pieces and views of the Manhattan skyline. Located in Terminal C3 near gate C123, this club is the largest club in United's network, and is opening just in time for the Memorial Day holiday, which the airline expects will be one of its busiest travel weekends so far this year.

"As more and more customers return to the skies, United is committed to delivering a superior customer experience on and off the plane, especially in increasingly crowded airports," said Aaron McMillan, United's managing director of hospitality and planning. "Our new Newark Club location is carefully designed with the customer at the forefront with thoughtful touches like murals and dcor that reflect the local community. This design theme and commitment to creating a locally-inspired experience will set the precedent for future club openings and renovations across our network."
The Newark United Club location features a new design and reflects a modern take on the United Club experience. It showcases many firsts for the club, as well as existing premium offering, including the following:
"The Newark Museum of Art is honored to be a part of this remarkable tribute to our community and our city," said Linda Harrison, The Newark Museum of Art's director and CEO. "May these tremendous artworks inspire and remind our residents and visitors of Newark's role as a cultural hub for artistic excellence and community cultivation. We are so proud to contribute to this exciting unveiling and pay homage to our special city with these two extraordinary works of art."
"Artists like Gilbert Hsiao and Dahlia Elsayed have a gift, which is to make the world new for us over and over again," said Emma Wilcox, Gallery Aferro's co-founder. "Gallery Aferro is thrilled to see these acclaimed alumni of our residency and fellowship program gain a new global audience of travelers with this project."

Went through today at around 12:30 pm after arriving from CDG. Not super crowded. I feel like I'm a victim of over-hype, having read all the reviews and seen all the pictures. It was perfectly nice, and the taco buffet was tasty (had a little bit of carnitas with some guac -- well done), but I can't imagine this space won't look like a messy zoo in no time.

Here are some more photos. A small sample is below. The fill collection is in my Google Drive linked below.

Also, here are some 360 photos that I took, similar to the bubbles on Google street View.
(Since they are a true 360, I was unable to keep myself out of it)
You will need a special viewer for them, something designed specifically for 360 photos.
I have a Mac and have "Spherical Viewer" from the App Store. I don't remember if I paid for it or not.

They accept the 1 time use Chase Explorer Visa passes as well - I used them this morning. Though I suspect they will be the first to be blocked once they approach capacity.

Got to visit the C123 lounge today for the first time. I was supposed to be there on Friday but thanks to a line of storms that went through EWR and 3 cancelled flights I finally wound up having to change departure airports and do a mad dash. I digress...
The positives:
- The space is great. It's not your typical lounge and definitely has a unique feeling to it which makes it feel "special" as compared to the pop-up or just most regular UCs out there
- The taco bar was good. The carnitas was on the dry side but had decent flavor. The guac had no flavor at all but it looked fresh.
- There were 3 bartenders working which made the lines move relatively quick
- SHOWERS! This is my first non-PL shower in a UC in who knows how many years. A few downsides to this (see below) but just happy to have the ability to take a shower after getting off an intercontinental flight
- It is absolutely not on the same level as a PL but it's absolutely several steps above any other 'normal' United Club in the network.
The negatives (subjective and IMO obvi):
- Can someone please tell me why the shower rooms in every lounge I go to are set to 80F or higher? This new lounge is no exception.
- No one at the check-in desk for the showers. After waiting 5 minutes I walked down the hallway and found someone who was washing towels. She just grunted and pointed me to an open door with a shower.
- No supplies whatsoever were provided or offered for the shower
- Fruit flies and larger flies in a lot of spots. Unacceptable for a brand new space but food gone bad in the back already? Maybe related to how hot the shower rooms are?
- You can't self-serve the mini sandwiches. I don't get it. What's so different about the sandwiches vs the buffet and salad bar that everyone is touching the handles on?
- I entered the lounge mid-afternoon on a Monday and it was packed. Took me 2 full walks of the whole lounge to find a seat. To their credit, UA had plenty of staff roaming the lounge to pick up dirty plates, wipe down seats, etc. but it was a mad house.
Bottom line...a huge step up for United and I'm happy to see it. I hope they re-use this concept in other new UCs that will pop up.

I take that as a Positive, I don't want to eat a sandwich that several dozen people have ACCIDENTALLY touched!

I assume they ran out of salmon?
BTW at 8am today, plenty of seats, even the sexy brown Eames style with footrest.
Hmmm, this looks familiar . . .

And, more importantly, are the tiny paper coffee cups permanent? A club deserves mugs IMHO.
Also, overheard someone entering the multigender restroom that the "lock is broken". Sigh.

I love mugs too and asked about them. Nope, just paper cups. So I'll bring my own.

My thoughts:
- Baristas were friendly and proactively welcoming. Too bad they're in the back so you don't see them when you walk in.
- The new automated entry system's alarm constantly goes off, so sitting in the back is better so you don't constantly hear it. People were struggling with the system so they had to have a person full-time at the automated entry system anyways.
- Did a full lap of the place when I first got in and there only seats available for two were near the entrance and it mostly remained that way for the duration of our stay. Even if seats became open in the back I wasn't willing to pack up and move and potentially lose our existing seat due to lack of seating.
- The club looks great. Hit up the old club a week prior and it's a significant improvement. If you get a seat in the back along the windows I'd imagine it's great if you like watching planes come and go.
- Food is certainly better than the old club. The sandwiches were a miss with us (bread seemed stale) but the taco/fajita bar was pretty good.
- The expanded beer selection is great. Though there were 3-4 bartenders working (only ever saw 2 at most at the old club), there was still a decent line most of the time and the bartender I got a drink from said she had to walk to the other end of the bar to get a beer each time someone ordered one because her draft beer dispenser was out of beer.
- Seating/charge ports are way way better.
- SO was very impressed with all the flavored water/juices available near the entrance.
- Loved that they had multiple water bottle refill stations. This needs to be in EVERY club.

Probably due to the fact that many people think they have access to the club if they are flying first class.
