CHICAGO, May 19, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- United Airlines today announced the opening of its new, nearly 30,000 square-foot United Club location at Newark Liberty International Airport, offering travelers a modern design, enhanced amenities and culinary offerings, locally-sourced art and furniture pieces and views of the Manhattan skyline. Located in Terminal C3 near gate C123, this club is the largest club in United's network, and is opening just in time for the Memorial Day holiday, which the airline expects will be one of its busiest travel weekends so far this year.

"As more and more customers return to the skies, United is committed to delivering a superior customer experience on and off the plane, especially in increasingly crowded airports," said Aaron McMillan, United's managing director of hospitality and planning. "Our new Newark Club location is carefully designed with the customer at the forefront with thoughtful touches like murals and dcor that reflect the local community. This design theme and commitment to creating a locally-inspired experience will set the precedent for future club openings and renovations across our network."
The Newark United Club location features a new design and reflects a modern take on the United Club experience. It showcases many firsts for the club, as well as existing premium offering, including the following:
"The Newark Museum of Art is honored to be a part of this remarkable tribute to our community and our city," said Linda Harrison, The Newark Museum of Art's director and CEO. "May these tremendous artworks inspire and remind our residents and visitors of Newark's role as a cultural hub for artistic excellence and community cultivation. We are so proud to contribute to this exciting unveiling and pay homage to our special city with these two extraordinary works of art."
"Artists like Gilbert Hsiao and Dahlia Elsayed have a gift, which is to make the world new for us over and over again," said Emma Wilcox, Gallery Aferro's co-founder. "Gallery Aferro is thrilled to see these acclaimed alumni of our residency and fellowship program gain a new global audience of travelers with this project."
The Newark United Club location is the first of a series of United Club locations to open with the new club design and amenities. I wish i could understand what UA was thinking. I have not been to this club yet but the location would have been better suited for a polaris club. Down that tier is often the ULH flights. The central tier which has a lot of domestic flights still has zero close UC since they opened Polaris. Hopefully, they will finally be able to improve the club down on the last tier which was too small before it was the only club.

Too big to be a Polaris Club. Doesn't need this much space - the current Polaris location is sized appropriately.
Needed a new United Club - badly - in Terminal C.
So this opens, then they renovate C1.
Still doesn't solve for C2, but at least those are equidistant from the C3 and (renovated) C1 clubs. C2 simply doesn't lend itself to a good club location.
Actually the best move they could've made, IMO, location wise.

Lots of international flights use C-2. There are 4 widebody-capable gates (102, 104, 110, 112) and all are typically used for international departures during the evening rush. Polaris is pretty much centrally located given that C-3 has 12 WB positions, C-2 has 4 and C-1 has 5. C-3 never had a club on the concourse so this is a welcome addition for that area, and C-1 has been in desperate need of a renovation for the last decade or so. I don't think C-1 will be expanded but the renovation will no doubt be an improvement.

Generally speaking, lounges across the system are getting larger, not smaller. C-1 is somewhat space-limited due to its location, but at 17,000sf I don't think it is shrinking. My understanding is it is keeping the same footprint.

So, it depends on the hours, you might feel very differently.
No matter what, this lounge is way overdue.

Does anyone still use the C93 pop-up UC? I notice they're now open all day (5:15am-9:15pm, according to the App), instead of opening mid-afternoon. You might be the only one there.
