This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

I would not be giving United $10,000 for anything given the current state of their inflight service and product unless you value the Polaris seat at that price.
Very much agree -- here is a picture of the Salmon appetizer on LX a few weeks ago to DXB -- honestly -- it was so good I had forgotten that airplane food doesn't have to be bad....

Note a real glass, fresh bread, and multi-course....

Yes, they are. On an eastbound TATL, that's why I will pick UA metal. Westbound, I'll opt for LH/LX every time. Soft product there is significantly better than on UA.

As much as I love to rag on UA, LX F is not a fair comparison for UA J. LX J is a fair comparison, and I agree with others that their catering quality, presentation, and quantity is steps ahead of what UA currently offers.

On transcon routes between NY and LA/SF, my most frequent routes, UA is dead last behind AS, AA, B6, AA, and DL in my books, as far as inflight services go

Agree on this. IIRC, UA was among the first to bring back hot, plated meals on transcons and other domestic flights (perhaps they never discontinued hot meals on transcons, I forget), but since then they have done nothing while the competition has caught up and leapfrogged them.

As the poster of that picture on LX the intent was never a comparison of UA J to LX F -- it was simply a reminder that food doesn't have to suck on planes...

And to think I told the UA survey folks that I thought the vanilla gelato served on a recent flight to ICN was lame. I should count my blessings.

With recent inflation pressures, that $1.27 per Polaris meal budget doesn稚 stretch as far.

Yet people still are paying for it, I can hear the laughter from the Willis Tower.

May Changes

Does anyone have any intel on May soft product changes? The fact that UA is still servicing this slop in Polaris is utterly embarrassing.

Well that is just sad and shows poor planning! 😳
