This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

Are they still doing anything pre-arrival, or mid-flight on the longer flights? I know Pre-Arrival used to be a full breakfast that got cut back to a sandwich. It would be nice if it was a little more.

These are the current mid-flight/pre-arrival snack options when sitting in J for p.t.s. (EWR/JFK-LAX/SFO):

Wow - that's bad. Are they any better on T-Atl or longer T-Pac flights? I can't imagine going 14 hours SFO-SYD on the dinners shown in this thread, even if you sleep for 8 of them.

May be better to ask these questions over in the 2022 Let's Eat Polaris Business thread if you're going TPAC / TATL / SYD..

Have they eliminated the sandwiches? That's almost a four-hour block time.

I thought 1,500 was the threshold for the plated hot meals (currently ragu or chicken), but that "snack" flights of this length would get the much-maligned sandwiches in addition to the snack boxes.

I think it's the same as any other situation flying medium-distance hub to outstation (LAS, PHX, MIA, etc.) — sandwich or snackbox outbound, snackbox only and no sandwich on the return.

Where on your UA reservation does it should how long (many miles) a flight is?

I got hot "snack" options (breakfast croissant) on returns to IAH ex-RSW and ex-MIA in November and December, respectively. More consistent inconsistency by UA?

I suppose I should've said no guaranteed hot option on return, and in my experience, usually no hot option. For example, I had snackbox only for return MIA-IAH. Off the top of my head, I can only think of once getting the hot snack sandwich, out of MCO, and also a breakfast croissant. Is it something about breakfast? But anyway, yes, I think definitely more consistent inconsistency.

American is bringing back real, plated food on flights greater than 900 miles. Time for United to up their game and ditch the lame 1500-mile requirement for something edible.
