This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

The 1 tray meal is appropriate for PP/domestic F. Can we not have courses in Polaris?

Yeah, great to see the sundae/dessert cart in action and a separate plated appetizer, but the presentation of the entree in the old-style casserole is sad.

Maybe because LA people are picky eaters or UA FAs at LAX are just better!
I fly PHL-ORD alot and find it interesting that in F, I am offered a stroopwafel and/or pretzels and in the back, I'm offered a snackbox (for free as 1K).
The least they could do is offer a snackbox in F. Yeah, I know I can ask for one.

No excuse why they haven't returned at least a full, varied snack basket for F on short UAX flights. There is no consistency in this segment of service.

Well the excuse is that UA doesn't want to spend the money to give anything away for free. They have snack boxes in Y because they're a revenue item.

On short haul, I typically don't want a UA snack box (which pretty much all suck). I do like being able to choose from an assortment of individual snacks, as you can do on AA, AS, and DL.

Actually, I've flown many shorter UX flights where there was a snack basket with snacks better than stroopwafel/pretzels.

During the pandemic, PHL-ORD was rather inconsistent. Sometimes, I'd get a snack basket, sometimes just the snack BAG. Now it has become consistent. just the snack BAG or a snack basket with the contents of the snack BAG.

I've written to customer service about this a few times. They say that you get nothing in Y (I only get the box because I'm 1k) and up front its the snack BAG. They don't see that for GS/1K, you get less in F.

Be careful what you wish for - if there is a recession setting in, I wouldn't it put it past Kirby to cancel all hot/plated domestic meals outside of PS and hand out complimentary snack boxes in F as your only option.

I agree. They seem to appear particularly frequently ex-SIN, at least based on the reports in this thread.

It's been noted that one of the regional carriers (not SkyWest) offers a snack basket. You will absolutely NOT get a snack basket on mainline UA.

In my experience on Express, they always go through the economy cabin with a snack (pretzels, biscoff, stroopwaffle). Sometimes choice of all 3, sometimes just one option. Exact same that was offered to First Class.
And there are not always snack boxes available on the flights, even if you know to request one.

I think it is GoJet that has the full, "premium" snack basket sometimes, but it is not at all consistent with them.

No snack in FC cabin, ORD-ORF

I got no snack in FC cabin for ORD-ORF on mainline (A319). It was a very junior-level crew, though.
BTW, when did UA crew begin wearing a red/white scarf? I did not notice it before yesterday.

Perfectly normal. Sometimes they'll offer pretzels/stroopewaffels, sometimes they can't be bothered.
