previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

Americans will get what we tolerate. But we seem happy to get less and less for our money.

To show how inconsistent things have become, I was on the 5:28 flight later the same day on an E170 and drinks were offered in FC. You just don't know what to expect from crew to crew. My crew on my flight earlier that day from London to IAD was fantastic.

I was in Polaris just now and for breakfast the cabin attendant took his phone out and showed me photos he had taken of the 3 dishes...

Quite awkward I thought.

Well I know something that might have been more awkward while flipping through photos on your phone with a stranger

I would actually prefer that to the usually non-existent descriptions and blank looks when asked about the dishes.

Not "Chicken, fish, pasta"? And "Red or white?"

Can anyone help me have a sense of what to expect for meal on IAD-SFO evening flight (in First)? It is a Polaris seat plane, but not sure what that implies about the meal. Website just says "dinner" - will there be a few choices? Some kind of salad and dessert include? Thanks for any tips!

The same meal as other United First service. Check previous posts for reference - zaatar chicken, impossible meatball, fruit bowl, cookie. The main entree hasn't changed for a long time now, and is not that great anyway.

So, as a follow up, I flew AA on the return, PIT-DCA, in the first row of coach. No service back there, but I did watch two flight attendants quickly pass out snacks to the entire F cabin (also an ERJ 175) and serve drinks. United's best defense is that IAD-PIT is 22 miles shorter.

I believe UA's defense is "we know other carriers offer a better soft-product, and we don't care."

The return of hot towels in F?

{W}hen do we project UA will return hot towels as part of domestic F service?

I appreciate that not everybody on FT misses the hot towels, and some here hypothesize that they are not hygienic.

However, if the FA’s were to again offer the tray of hot towels to customers seated in the F cabin, then customers would have the option to accept or decline, which customers currently don’t have.

Do folks generally agree that having the hot towel option is better than not having an option?

Other (US) airlines have restarted hot towel service already. UA is going to hold out as long as possible because it's additional costs.

I'm going to go with - since they haven't restarted by now it is gone for good.
