This us an archive thread, the active thread is General discussion of UA's inflight service (Domestic / International, all cabins)
previous thread: COVID Era UA inflight service changes

Thread is for general discussion of the state of UA in-flight service / catering, comparison to other carriers, past UA offerings and concerns with management decisions.

For a specific post about a recent in-flight food, use the appropriate Let's Eat .... thread.

The current Onboard Service descriptions by UA.com

Long-haul international premium cabin dining
North America, Caribbean and Latin America premium cabin dining
United Economy dining

Since the UA website is extremely vague, I'm looking for a few volunteers to submit data, and I will summarize to complete the wiki. kind regards, phkc070408

I'm thinking this recent line of discussion will lead to no good. Let's refocus on discussion of UA's inflight service.

Psychoanalyzing the "passengers" feels like a backdoor approach to commenting on the other posters (which of course is not allowed).

I've only taken a few flights (12 segments since late October) and in-flight service has greatly improved even in the last couple months. This week's flights even saw the return of the PDB! The fligth attendents overall have been extraordinary- especially under the current circumstances. The meals... blergh... got a "new" snackbox today- trailmix, parmesan crisps, apple crisps, nut bar, some other crisp, and some weird fruit leather-like thing. It was... quite unappealing. But! they were back to "real" napkins (gray) instead of recylcle blue "placemats" like my flights in October/November for "full" meal, and real wine glasses. My last polaris flight had the blue "napkins" and absolutely horrid food (early december).

Now... Check-in, ESPECIALLY in Denver!!!!! Holy crap! It's a complete mess. I believe a fair amount of the check-in agents are "contracted" but it's all over the place. It doesn't help that no one seems to have given thought to the newly reconfigured DIA check-in area. There's zero flow. And the premier/1k area is either grossly understaffed, or completely closed (2 out of 4 times for check-in). No one knows what to do and it seems like everyone trying to use the fancy "new" kiosks gets the red-blinky light that requires agent attention- there are NO agents so it's just a complete cluster.

Please correct me if Im wrong but I would assume the vast majority of your flights are between Hawaii and the mainland? I would say there's very little room for an excuse on flights of that length no matter where in the US you'd be flying to even if the crew wanted to sit and provide no service, so it makes sense that you've had a very high success rate. The problem comes UA is now resorting to the short flight excuse on these 1-1.5 hour long flights which previously had service without any problems. That's part of the many problems that many are seeing and reporting across UA/UX flights.

Yesterday morning I flew DEN-EWR, and in first class we only had a choice of snack boxes. Catering failed to load the plane with any heated meals or snacks. 757-200 with the 2/2 lie-flat configuration. Sent an email to 1kvoice. Really saying something about ops for that to happen on a 4-hour hub-to-hub route in first...

Re no service, this has been exclusively UX 75+ minute flights for me, I flew in F on 4 of these the past month, 4/4 on the upgrade, 0/4 on even getting water.

Flying a 75min WN flight tomorrow and their email says we値l get drink service. And that痴 for 120-140 folks, not 16.

So far I have been fine with UA mainline (in F and Y domestic)

I fly SFO-LAX and back weekly. For my flights, the flight attendants have always conducted a beverage service and handed out those water/pretzel/stroopwaffle bags. PDBs have been hit or miss.

You'd be incorrect. While many of my flights while I lived in the Bay Area were international - plenty of UX flights and short hops to LA and Portland - and all my Vegas flights which have been monthly since Oct 2020 all have had service. I cannot relate to this no service thing,

UX in/out of ORD is where I have seen it (or not seen, if referring to any onboard service)

Hopefully your flight is over 251 miles - no alcohol otherwise.

Ah - I stand corrected - although WN is not a airline I fly - even interisland in Hawaii (way to many cancellations on a frequent basis)

I am most curious if the sundaes are back how they are on AA? What about a cheese plate? And a warm bread basket? Found a really good price and even though I'm not a huge Polaris seat fan it still blows away 2-2 on the 57. Also, $150 less than what AA wanted and that would also be 2-2 seating. I dont see any bread baskets pictured above or sundaes or cheese plates so I am starting to think United is way behind AA.
AA is ahead of UA in terms of food on transcon flights. 2 entree choices (chicken or ravioli), salad, and surprise dessert all on one tray - as evidenced in this thread. There is a small cheese plate or hummus plate snack before landing.

The LAX United Club does have better offerings than Admiral's Club.

No water, no nothing, and being announced as such, was noticeable though

Edit: my WN is over 250 miles per the email so a non-alcohol drink service has been promised

SkyWest is just horrible these days. Another fire UA needs to put out.
