Active thread; UA-Schedule changes; +25% TATL 2022 capacity, Q2 TPAC down 65% vs 2019; June changes

UA publishes a schedule for 330 days in advance (called Beginning of Schedule) and in the past would make tweaks quarterly and things would be fairly settles 3-4 months out. Updates would occur Friday evening / Saturday morning (Chicago time). Routine additions could occur anytime.

Then 3-5 weeks prior to a month, UA makes a major update of that month's schedule.

Examples (Major updates)
The October 2020 schedule was updated 4-5 September 2020
The November 2020 schedule was updated 2-3 October 2020
The December 2020 schedule was updated 30-31 October 2020
Holidays can move the major date a week earlier or later.
Weekly updates are still generally done over night Friday-Saturday (Chicago)

UA does not publish a summary of most schedule changes but a variety of sources below do and summaries / links of those sources can be found in this thread & wiki.

The only thing constant is change and at United Airlines, some of the fees associated with changes related to flying are gone for good. The carrier announced today that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free, regardless of fare type, on a flight departing the day of their travel, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus Premier members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

United is also extending its waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020, to permit unlimited changes with no fee. This policy applies to all ticket types issued after March 3, 2020 and is valid for domestic and international travel.

The new change fee policy applies to all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S. 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and customers will not be limited in the number of times they adjust their flights.

Additionally, United is giving customers more flexibility to change their flights on the day of their travel so they can head home if a meeting ends earlier or enjoy a few more hours on vacation. With the ability to list for same-day standby for free, customers will now have an option to take a different flight with the same origin and destination airports as their original itinerary if space is available at departure. This enhanced option will be available to all customers for travel within the U.S. and to and from international destinations beginning on January 1, 2021. Customers who want to switch flights will be able to add themselves to the standby list through Uniteds award-winning mobile app, on united.com or at the airport no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and one hour before departure on international flights.

The carrier is also improving the travel experience for its MileagePlus members including waiving all redeposit fees on award travel for flights changed or cancelled more than 30 days before departure and allowing all MileagePlus Premier members to confirm a different flight on the day of their travel. As a way to thank MileagePlus Premier members for their loyalty, beginning January 1, 2021, all Premier members will be able to confirm a seat for free on a different flight with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket. This expanded option will allow MileagePlus Silver members and above to confirm a new seat in the same ticket fare class if space is available. Earlier this year, United announced that it will extend status for MileagePlus Premier and United Global Services members through January 2022. United also reduced thresholds for Premier qualification by 50 percent for each status level, to make reaching an even higher status tier easier.

No, the last update was thru 2 June. June will likely be updated in 3 maybe 4 weeks

Good, wondering in what thread this would fit. Trying to keep it brief: we're looking to go SMF-BOS in late August/early Sept. There are some one-way options at $390 in F: for two of us, it would be a reasonable amount over the ETC we have. The connection fitting the time we want, avoiding a red-eye or arriving too late for the bus ride to our home area, connects at ORD. We'd somewhat prefer a transcon and a short flight, so that could mean connecting at SFO or IAD. If we book the ORD connection and get a schedule change of at least two hours, can we change it with no additional fare to anything with two seats in F?

I think you should be able to. After the May schedule changes were updated, I changed my MCO-AUS connection from IAH to DEN at no extra cost even though the MCO-DEN-AUS route cost much more. Ironically, I ended up changing it back to connecting in IAH later after my returning flight was changed. Still havent paid a cent over initial booking price.

Anything reasonable, yes and 30 minutes change should be enough. 2 hours would give you a full cash refund if desired.

SFO and BOS are still hurting real bad. For May UA still has 1 738 BOS-SFO ... so my hopes are not high for a robust schedule to come back soon. So looking for a TCON + feeder could be difficult.

Even by late August, with colleges talking about getting back to normal? Adding to my thoughts about booking SMF-BOS then, this would be a trip with time with different family members, and we haven't decided if the last part would be in Sacramento or the East Bay. I don't find such good F fares out of SFO, but there are some for SJC-ORD-BOS. If we book that and there's a 30-minute change, is there a co-terminal rule that would let us change to an SFO-BOS non-stop?

I got June schedule updates last night. Looks like SFO-BOS was taken down from 6 to 3 ... but 752 is back!

yes, generally speaking they are happy to do that when flights get cancelled.

Yes, it looks like some June schedule updates were implemented overnight. A lot of the transcontinental markets have been trimmed, but not as deeply as in prior months. EWR-LAX/SFO are in the 6-7 daily range now, compared to 3 daily currently.

Oddly, some other routes I frequent (RIC-EWR, RIC-ORD) are untouched. There is no way United is going to keep RIC-EWR at 6 daily, when it has been 1-2 daily since the beginning of the pandemic.
