Active thread; UA-Schedule changes; +25% TATL 2022 capacity, Q2 TPAC down 65% vs 2019; June changes

UA publishes a schedule for 330 days in advance (called Beginning of Schedule) and in the past would make tweaks quarterly and things would be fairly settles 3-4 months out. Updates would occur Friday evening / Saturday morning (Chicago time). Routine additions could occur anytime.

However, during the COVID era, UA has gone to a more dynamic and shorter-term setting of schedule (as has the other carriers). Presently UA, while UA is still publishing a schedule for 330 days in advance it reflects pre-COVID operational levels and is considered just a placeholder schedule. Then 3-5 weeks prior to a month, UA makes a major update of that month's schedule.

Examples (Major updates)
The October 2020 schedule was updated 4-5 September 2020
The November 2020 schedule was updated 2-3 October 2020
The December 2020 schedule was updated 30-31 October 2020
Holidays can move the major date a week earlier or later.
Weekly updates are still generally done over night Friday-Saturday (Chicago)

UA does not publish a summary of most schedule changes but a variety of sources below do and summaries / links of those sources can be found in this thread & wiki.

Always crosscheck with UA's Travel Notices , Coronavirus (COVID-19) travel waivers and information, www.united.com/coronavirus as the situation is dynamic

Change Fees Are Gone For Good
The only thing constant is change and at United Airlines, some of the fees associated with changes related to flying are gone for good. The carrier announced today that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on January 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free, regardless of fare type, on a flight departing the day of their travel, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus® Premier® members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

United is also extending its waiver for new tickets issued through December 31, 2020, to permit unlimited changes with no fee. This policy applies to all ticket types issued after March 3, 2020 and is valid for domestic and international travel.

The new change fee policy applies to all standard Economy and Premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S. 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands and customers will not be limited in the number of times they adjust their flights.

Additionally, United is giving customers more flexibility to change their flights on the day of their travel so they can head home if a meeting ends earlier or enjoy a few more hours on vacation. With the ability to list for same-day standby for free, customers will now have an option to take a different flight with the same origin and destination airports as their original itinerary if space is available at departure. This enhanced option will be available to all customers for travel within the U.S. and to and from international destinations beginning on January 1, 2021. Customers who want to switch flights will be able to add themselves to the standby list through United’s award-winning mobile app, on united.com or at the airport no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and one hour before departure on international flights.

The carrier is also improving the travel experience for its MileagePlus members including waiving all redeposit fees on award travel for flights changed or cancelled more than 30 days before departure and allowing all MileagePlus Premier members to confirm a different flight on the day of their travel. As a way to thank MileagePlus Premier members for their loyalty, beginning January 1, 2021, all Premier members will be able to confirm a seat for free on a different flight with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket. This expanded option will allow MileagePlus Silver members and above to confirm a new seat in the same ticket fare class if space is available. Earlier this year, United announced that it will extend status for MileagePlus Premier and United Global Services® members through January 2022. United also reduced thresholds for Premier qualification by 50 percent for each status level, to make reaching an even higher status tier easier.

We’re extending electronic certificatesTo give you more flexibility when you travel, electronic certificates are now valid for 24 months from the date they were issued. This includes all currently valid electronic certificates and all new ones issued on or after April 1, 2020.

Exactly climmy well said. I mean I have my fair share of gripes with United on issues but nearly every employee with whom I interact (always the odd exception) is just doing their best to get through their day and help me get to wherever I am trying to go.

It is not like there aren't options. You don't like United then fly another airline.

FYI, United requested more service suspension exemptions from DOT today:
-they want to suspend Anchorage until July 6
-they want to suspend Key West until July 6
-they want to suspend Santa Rosa until July 6
-they initially requested to suspend San Juan through May 6; they now want to extend that through June 4

Candidly this all makes sense.

As mentioned somehow in other threads or areas, the airlines should be sharing the burden as to not be overlapping any routes.

AS can handle all Anchorage flights for sure.
EYW...Drive from MIA is pretty easy.
Santa Rosa...There's simply no traffic now at all so drive to SFO.
SJU can easily be handled by AA as they have always had a good presence there.

I think the airlines should and could "coordinate" any overlapping routes such that the routes can be maintained but by a single carrier. Sure it's collusion but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I mean seriously, anchorage is AS's home turf. Let them handle it. SJU. It's always been an AA stronghold from MIA.

Why even get people on a plane to EYW or STS.

If the DOT rejected this request it's crazy.

Maybe I should post this in Omni, but me in Maui, wife in Colorado, we do daily calls about 5 times per day. I speak with my UA friends almost daily as well, I wish them health, love, and happiness.

STS to SFO, I get. But EYW to MIA? That's a 3 hour drive when traffic cooperates. (STS to SFO is only a three-hour drive when traffic doesn't cooperate ). Within the stated aims of the CARES legislation, I don't see any justification for allowing UA to abandon EYW.

Flight canceled, no alternate provided to SIN, refund initially refused, now pending

Today UA changed my itinerary from LAS-SFO-SIN on May 27 to LAS-SFO, and asked me to accept the schedule change... (There was no proposed way to get me to Singapore, just to SFO.). UA 29 has been canceled, and they hadn't figured out a way to get me to SIN.

I contacted the Twitter team, and asked to be refunded as they didn't even propose an alternate flight to get me to my destination, and my request for a refund was refused. I specifically asked for a refund, saying I didn't want an ETC or voucher. At first I was told "we're sorry to hear that one of your flights was cancelled. Upon checking, we are currently suspending our flights to Singapore due to government mandates or restrictions in place prohibiting travel. While we're unable to provide a refund at this time, we can keep the ticket value as a flight credit valid for 24 months from reissuing date."

I referenced the DOT rule, and asked them to reconsider, or escalate, but was told that the Twitter team could not submit a refund request for me, and I would need to cancel the reservation myself, then submit a refund request, which "...is subject for review and approval which may take up to 18 business days."

I've had flights canceled and refunded by the Twitter team over large schedule changes in the past, so either this is a new policy or I got the wrong agent. Anyway, I've canceled and submitted my request; hopefully I won't have to follow it up with a DOT complaint.

I get the message in the app to “click here to review and accept schedule changes,” but it takes me to this screen, and there’s nothing to accept.

(As far as I’m concerned, this will hopefully make canceling for a full refund easier, I just find it odd.)

Now that UA has killed all service to my home airport, rather than issue schedule change notices, they're sending me flight cancellation notices as if I initiated the cancel, locking up my fare paid in travel credit.

The post-May 4 schedule is positively cataclysmic. Never thought I'd see anything like it, and it seems June will be similar.

It would appear that most, if not all, 77W will be deployed on cargo-only routes, with the handful of pax longhauls operating with 787-9/10. The domestic mainline network looks to be substantially 73G/738/319, with no mainland WB flying.

It also looks like IAH-EZE has been bagged for May, after planning to resume.

Tickets can still be refunded when the itinerary is in a canceled state, as long as you can convince the agents that you didn't cancel voluntarily.

I've given up on UA out of Maui for time being. Hawaiian will get me to LAX and back and a cheapo Ace rental car gets me to LV. It is what it is right now....

Too bad HA wasn't *A - I will be travelling w/o status . Round trip was $550 in their A330 E+, so not too bad.

Bolding mine: Thats the downgrade that happened to goalie-parents on IAD-SFO on May 13th

There is a checkpoint to get to the Keys no tourists must be a resident or have a valid reason to get access so traffic is very light. I go all the time usually fly into EYW when fare is good. Otherwise fly into FLL or MIA and drive. Like to drive it during the day great scenery.
