Companion wants to get on my flight
My colleague who has no status whats to fly with me Lax-Hnl (773)
I am already booked and have a seat in Prem Eco
Whats the best plan ?
cancel my tix and use the credit to book another reservation with both of us ?
trying to 1) get him in prem next to me 2) get upgraded to first together

If this is a business trip, then you have to consider expense report with 2 tickets.
If the airfare has not gone up, then booking tickets on same reservation would be best. If upgrade does not happen when checking in, then you have to consider splitting reservation to have better chance of upgrading yourself. Your colleague will preserve Prem Econ seating even if you're upgraded.

You can call to get a companion into E+ even if not on same PNR. Just call in.
wont work for upgrade status until airport though.
