UA47 FRA-IAH March 22 - Emergency Return

Anyone here on UA47 FRA-IAH today? The 777 declared an emergency, turned around and landed back at FRA.

Wow, that's quite a diversion. They were very close to Manchester as well as London. Burning off fuel?

The fact that the flight proceeded back to FRA indicates that the pilots felt safe enough to avoid dumping fuel and emergency-land at the closest possible airport.
Fortunately the issue at hand did not require more drastic measures!
Would be interesting to know what technical situation it actually is/was.

Not necessarily. Maybe UA was able to rebook enough passengers from the diverted flight so that they no longer need the additional TATL capacity of a special section. If it's a positioning issue, flying it back with no passengers would be cheaper than operating it as a special section. Of course, if we later see it scheduled as UA2798 for the following day, then we'll know something.

UA2798 is not a passenger flight number, not a special section --- that might be 30xx. It is a ferry flight so would not be carrying commercial passengers

They must have read your post and incremented the number just to spite you.

(Still looks to be a ferry flight.)
