I'm a newly minted 1K, if I was to use my miles to upgrade a family member via waitlist, would he/she inherit my status priority in the upgrade queue?

No, they would prioritized based on their presonal status

I'm looking at an award flight (MP) NRT-ORD for 88k in J on NH. If I add on a domestic segment, though, the price jumps up to 175k. Does United not let you add on domestic segments for "free" (even in Y) anymore?

The only "free" domestic segment is an excursionist perk, which can only be used as part of a round trip award booking. Otherwise you're just pricing whatever the one way award fare is between those city pairs.

Not sure what you mean by "adding on" a segment. If you are using multicity tool, the ticket is pricing as two separate awards, one from NRT-ORD and the other the domestic flight from ORD. If you're simply changing the search parameters to finish the itinerary with an ORD-XXX segment, UA is pricing that itinerary higher due either to inventory constraints (no I on domestic connector), or it's married segment pricing.

Is this not a change? I'm used to searching for gateways on longhaul fights - in this case, the trans-Pac - and then I was always able to add on a domestic US segment without increasing the price. It was usually in Y, but no change in redemption costs.

No, that was never the rule with UA. You've always needed saver inventory to keep the saver award price. I believe AA used to do that. Not sure if they still do.

Many years ago post purchase award changes were handled differently. The mostly likely explanation is I space is not available on the domestic leg , so in older terminology saver space is not available and the award is being priced at a higher "everyday availability" / JN. In the past there was more domestic I space, no it is difficult to fine.

The other change is multi-city bookings are now always treated as separate awards and not as a single award. The older approach of piecing flights together is no longer very workable.

Ok. I assume this is the same for economy saver fare, too, then? I could only rarely confirm a F domestic segment, but Y was always available with my longhaul J ticket with no additional cost.

I can see that the domestic flight I'm targeting for this trip is indeed X0 right now.

That would have been a function of inventory, not some rule that you get a free domestic connection.

For my flight today, I got notified yesterday that I was upgraded. I assume it's a CPU (United Silver)

Regardless, I need to check more bags and also would rather credit my Aeroplan number instead.

If, at the airport, I change to my Aeroplan number, would I lose my CPU because my MP number is no longer attached? Knowing early would be the difference between leaving home with 2x23kg bags (Economy + *G) versus 3x32kg bags (First + *G).

Thanks!!

It should not, you only risk is some rouge airport agent. But it bag check this is unlikely to even be noticed. Check your bags first and then use a kiosk to change your crediting account.

My wife happened to make Silver this year. I made 1K.

If I use PP's to waitlist us on a flight, does she go on the list under me, or on her Silver status? PNR split doesn't matter as it would be the last leg only requested.

ETA: I guess we could still be split PNR if the 1st leg is CPU... Last time we hit the CPU list BEFORE any sweep, she was on her own.
