* family members were waitlisted (on separate reservations) on a W fare since September. PN positive. Rebooked 2 into R when R opened up. cleared within 24 hours of rebooking in PZ while PN still positive. one person still in W did not clear, but it appears R opened up tonight so rebooked W into R. fingers crossed it will clear tomorrow.

I realize it may all be coincidence but that sure looks like PZ is being kept for OAR rather than OAR being processed before Y

Or should I be looking for Premium Plus fares of a specific class?

For next summer, it appears PP fares from SFO to Europe are about $2400-2500 and business class fares for the same routes and dates are $4100 plus or minus a couple hundred.

This is just looking on GF.
O>A>R in terms of ranking within Premium Plus.

As an FYI I am seeing OAL business less expensive than UA's Premium Plus fares but on the website for the airline rather than GF

1. Route: SFO-PPT
2. Date: 12/16
3. Fare class: T
4. T -> RN -> PZ
5. # of Plus Points: 80
6. How many days/weeks in advance ticket was purchased: ~3.5 months
7. How many hours/days/weeks before departure did upgrade clear: ~1 month

RN was available at time of purchase and cleared immediately. I recently saw that PN=2, and was hoping for that to move to PZ for another upgrade bump (put in PP for both simultaneously). I have had very poor success with PPs this year, so happy to see this in particular.

Use your App:
It is PN9, PZ5, and IN9. This means that you can cancel R class booking and rebook W class (40 PPs) or lower fare (80 PPs).

This is the way. Also save some money in the process.

1. Route: CHC-SFO one way fare.
2. Date: 6/18/2023
3. Fare class: W, $600. I had to book as multi-city CHC-AKL-SFO in order to get the W fare on the trans-oceanic.
4. W to R to PZ
5. # of plus points: 40x3
6. Ticket purchased 11/18/2022
7. Upgrade cleared: R instantly, then 2 tickets cleared PZ within 5 minutes after booking, third ticket cleared in less than 24 hours

There is a TON of 80K biz award availability between SFO and AKL right now, beginning in March and running through northern hemisphere summer. Nonetheless, I opted to purchase economy and upgrade. Interestingly, availability at time of booking was RN=2, IN=9 and PN=9, while PZ=0

I needed three tickets total , so I first booked two and confirmed the immediate upgrade to RN.
Then I purchased the third ticket, and went to waitlist the upgrade... but by the time I got there RN was available once again! - because it turned out United had already processed the first two tickets from RN to PZ. Considering I was about to pay $2200 per ticket to fly NZ biz, a great value for pluspoints today!

Comments: this one really frustrated me. The cabin wasn't selling well (based on inventory and seat map) yet UA refused to release any PZ ahead of time. I went from #2 to #4 on the list within a week of the flight. Whenever anybody bought a seat P went down 1; within 24 hours it would go back up 2. UA was playing with P the whole time but refused upgrades on a 763 with no PY cabin. At T-24h flight was J9P8PN0 and they cleared down to J3.

Incidentally (maybe to break out into another thread) -- when did United agents start getting visibility into the upgrade waitlist? I was shocked when I called in a few weeks back and was actually told my waitlist position. New since COVID....

They have always had that access but had been coached not to reveal that information as it can change. Some newer agents may not have been coached or are not following that policy.
