Mods: Feel free to move to the PW772 grounded thread if it makes more sense:

But WRT moving the planes OUT of VCV: is it just regular UA flight crew who do it? Specific staff (of course they would need to be 772 qualified)? Reserve? Or is it a vendor? Any kind of color would be appreciated.

Generally speaking, for maintenance movements, the trips go into open time and can be picked up by regular (current) 777 line pilots. Usually scheduling will build a deadhead leg to a station near the particular boneyard (believe VCV would use LAX), maybe a hotel overnight, then a van ride to the airplane, fly out, then a hotel or DH home. Sometimes other flying may be built in to the trip but that's not the norm, as ferry flights generally do not adhere to the same type of schedule/punctuality of revenue operations.

United has some maintenance/test pilots but they don't usually fly the ferries.

Poking around tonight, looks like N24973 is getting out of there. "En route and on time" as UA2725 per FlightAware.

Also noticed tonight, 764 N66075, long stored at ROW, was scheduled to depart for SFO Tuesday as UA2740, but cancelled. I've wondered if one of those two at ROW would eventually head to HKG for the first Polaris conversion promised "in a couple weeks" a month or so ago. Stay tuned???

Battery issue as far as I'm aware. Nevertheless, in the air now and arriving 6am tomorrow in SFO.
