UA Christmas 2021 / January 2022 Ops / staffing Issues

Unfortunately, it looks like it might finally be UA's turn to have a holiday weekend of ops issues. 93 flights (5%) already cancelled for tomorrow, 12/24. Rumor is insufficient pilot staffing on the 737s.

Am hoping this will not impact New Year travel as quick turnaround between flights.

Was booked on UA 2050 SEA-SFO as one leg of a mileage run, got cancelled. Feel bad for folks who have Christmas plans affected by this.

The next couple weeks could be difficult with staffing due to Omicron. Requiring ten day quarantine regardless of symptoms will be disruptive as cases continue to spread.

Bingo. Virtually everyone I know who is testing with even the mildest of symptoms (NY area) is coming back positive. Fortunately, every case I've heard of, to a person, has been rather mild at worst. If we are quarantining as a result of a positive test, regardless of symptoms (and regardless of whether one agrees with it), there's no dispute it is going to cause widespread problems.

Well my 752 DEN-EWR flight got cxled, from Paid C to rebooked in Y via BNA (which is weird since their still selling C on that route). Approaching 45 mins on hold as Gold, missing my days as 1k currently.

What does this count as in terms of reaccommodation? (i.e. more like a mechanical or weather cancel)

Heard they may substitute in some 777 for 737, curious to see how it'll go with more crew - anyone know of routes where a widebody has been subbed in?

Have family flying in from Italy and after landing at Newark early everything else went to poop but they are in the air to IAH now from DCA, albeit arriving 5 hours later than planned with an extra stop in between and likely without bags per the app. Of the four different flights they were booked on variously from EWR, 1 cancelled EWR-IAH no crew for the widebody they said, then delay for COVID on EWR-IAD, rebook for an inbound delay "due to crew staffing" for another rebook EWR-DCA and finally a late arrival for the last leg DCA-IAH after delayed inbound with no extra info. All in paid F so they have been re-accommodated all in first and will make it today, so kudos in a way, but I can only imagine if UA are losing widebody flights between hubs it will not be a fun few days.
