The Breakout Bonus is a nice promo. I was already well on my way to making Premier Platinum but this will accelerate it for me and allow me to enjoy the extra perks a little early.

I took my qualifying flights yesterday and while the flights have posted, the promo PQD have not yet. We'll see how long they take to post.

Okay, so just to be clear. As a Plat who hasn't re-qualified yet, Fly to the Finish says I need to get either 2000 PQP or 1800 PQP + 8 PQF by November 30th and I would re-qualify. However, if I don't make that, but I do take 3 trips before November 30 then Breakout Bonus will apply and I'll get 1500 PQP (plus whatever I earn from the trips), which will be deposited in December.

Am i reading that correct?

Plus, you will have an extra month of time to re-qualify for Platinum or shoot for 1K.

if you want to bring fairness into the equation, why should corporate be a factor at all? I do and have always qualified on personal travel (as high as plat - for almost 15 years), and presumably it’s typically much easier for someone to hit the thresholds when they are spending OPM or from a business budget. My budget is going to be smaller than a corporate, but I hit the watermarks every year. I get they probably did this to encourage the companies who overall are more important to the business than anyone individually, and I’m not complaining. But saying, if this was meant to be based on ‘fairness’, there are probably much better factors to use.

What about the 1k that's been actively flying to try to get to 1k? Maybe this allows him to get there without the 36 segments, that's about it.
Or, am I understanding this promo incorrectly?
yes, you got it. This is about making sure those who were loyal before the pandemic will remain so when they are traveling again - as long as they make a bit of an effort. The fact is if folks are going to back to travel where the factors for picking a carrier are equal, esprcially when other carriers have made it easier to qualify, UA will lose out. Obviously. UA is going for what’s best for it.

given all the uncertainty, it was likely UA was going to have to do something to keep frequent travelers. Lots of folks have been predicting a return to normal, even within a few weeks of the virus arriving in the US back in spring 2020, but for multiple reasons - some based on what virus’ do, and others based on a lack of will of some people to do even anything that will help us get over it, we’re getting waves and then it subsides, now another wave. I’ll believe the end of the pandemic and normal travel patterns again when I see it. While many folks are traveling by this summer, it was never really ‘normal’. So I’m still waiting.

this. They’re making it easy to start where you were before everything started, and a little boost to others. I saw it somewhere upthread, but I agree and find it very unlikely that this promo will result in many folks getting a higher status than they had before or that they wouldn’t have gotten anyway, and UA will still likely shed quite a few elites (or have more with a lesser status).

my understanding of the terms is that the trip (ie, the full itinerary, or PNR) needs to start on/after Aug. 6 to qualify. Based on that, it is my belief that a round trip PNR with an outbound before Aug. 6 and a return after wouldn’t have anything qualifying (but if they were booked on separate PNRs, the ‘return’ would). YMMV, I guess).

PQF is simply a single segment. Except in pretty narrow circumstances, think of a PQF as one take off and landing - a trip is all of the segments (or PQFs) within your PNR. If you live in a spoke, and typically have 1 connection in each direction, and book a round trip, you would have 1 trip consisting of 4 PQFs.

typically, yes. However, if you have the same flight number for both segments, it will be 1 segment. Probably not likely with a EWR-SFO segment, but doing say, UA flight 354 from PHX to DEN, then ‘connecting’ to UA flight 354 DEN - IND would be considered 1 segment, not 2 (note Im making these flight numbers/ segments up - just providing an example).

I took my qualifying flights yesterday and while the flights have posted, the promo PQD have not yet. We'll see how long they take to post.
im not sure if the promo PQP will actually post separately. Im wondering if the status will just update at some point after you hit the goal, or after the promo end.

it would be nice to see a tracker for this promo specifically, for sure. But a promo PQF/PQP isn’t really ‘separate’ from a regular one - you can still hit status naturally - the only difference that PQP/F from partners won’t count.

I was a gold needing 1250 PQP and 8 PQF on July 27th. Received the offer to gain 1200 PQP and 6 PQF to requalify. But....got credited the corporate promo of 200 PQP so at the end I would need only 1050 PQP to requalify. However, the promotion says I need 1200 PQP and 6 PQF.
Am I safe if I get the 1050 PQP and 6 PQF?

Thanks
Anybody know the answer for this situation? Could I count the corporate bonus in my calculation and just gain the 1050 PQP for which I already have a flight booked. Would hate to miss the requalification for missing it by 150 PQP because of this confusing promotion...
Many thanks

The Corporate Headstart was a headstart for the promo and counts for the Fly to the Finish as is clearly and explicitly stated in the T&Cs
Eligible members who are also “Corporate Members” will automatically receive the following PQP deposits at the start of the Promotion Period, and no later than August 10, 2021, which will count toward satisfying the offer requirements:

This is exactly the situation I'm in. I had an outbound on 8/1, and a return on 8/9. The PQP for the return posted after my corporate bonus, but there is no way to know if United thinks it counts towards the promotion. A tracker would be nice for these edge cases.

I have a message out to the [email protected] to get clarity here. I'll post if I get anything useful.

Thank you WineCountryUA. This means I will only need 1000 PQP and 6 segments to requalify.

Meet these goals by Nov. 30, 2021, to requalify for Premier® 1K status through Jan. 2023 and earn +280 PlusPoints
  • Complete 10 Premier qualifying flights (PQF) on United or United Express®
  • Earn 2,700 Premier qualifying points (PQP) on United or United Express flights
OR
  • Earn a total of 3,000 PQP only
Plus: Because of your company’s affiliation with United, you’ll get a head start with 400 bonus PQP deposited into your account.

I'm a 1K that carried over from last year so with the 400 company bonus PQP, I guess I need 2600 PQP only to requalify? Seems like one trip in biz over to Europe should do the trick...

No calculator?
Silver hurdle is 3500 PQPs. UA is providing 550 PQPs in potential bonuses to current Silvers, equivalent to almost 16% of their Silver requirement.
1K hurdle is 15,000 PQPs. UA is providing 2250 PQPs in potential bonuses to current 1Ks, equivalent to 15% of their 1K requirement.
How more equal can you get? If parity is desired, 1K bonus potential should be increased by 150 PQPs.

Unbelievable... 28 pages of questions/confusions and still counting. And these are just flyers from FT. I can't even imagine the confusions/frustrations among the general elite population. Why can't we have something really simple like double or triple PQP/PQF if you fly during the promotional period.

Simplely that would not achieve what UAs wants. UA wants most elites to be able to requalified with as little as 20% of the requirement BUT not make it as easy to bump up a level. UA does not want to distort the distribution that much.

And as I have said this is really not that complex IMO
1) not requalified -- a program for you to requalify at ≈20% of 2021 levels if you fly UA in the next 3 months
2) qualified already, a small bonus (15% of your level) if you fly 3 additional trips
3) if you requal on your own in the next 3 months, you get #2 to use to a higher level
4) Bonus #2 can be used with other earnings to get a higher level or more PlusPoints
5) Certain customers got a just under 3% headstart of their present level for #1 or #2

Very generous to get you back to your present level and if already (or will organically) requal a bonus but less generous. Clearly UA wanted to folks requalified (but only if they put some skin in the game) BUT it did not want to go crazy pushing folks to higher levels,
