Generally available on all flights (including widebodies) over 900 miles except Premium Transcon (EWR<>SFO/LAX)
Pre-order has priority on the flight even about GS/1K and while originally pre-order was limited to a portion of each inflight choice, recent reports pre-order can consume the entire flight's allocation of a particular offering.

I pre-ordered from that exact same menu last week on DCA-IAH and my rigatoni was loaded (and surprisingly edible). The ricotta sourced for my dish was actually very fresh, which is hard to find in America. Doubt it will stay like that but I pre-ordered it again DCA next Thursday.
Week before that I had 5 breakfast pre-orders IAH-RTB and all were loaded. A week ago RTB-IAH 4 of my 5 dinner pre-orders were loaded. The one with the salad was not loaded, and I think the crew served it coming down (the inbound came from DEN not IAH) based on pieces of conversation I heard. The burgers were horrible and even my iron-stomach'd tax-deductions could not finish them. I have had MREs that were better...

Got a preorder email today for SFO-ORD on Thursday in Y. No preorder option in app before that. So comes at 48 hours, even though the page still claims you can do it starting 5 days. Breakfast options (scramble, oatmeal and sandwich) all listed as ‘out of stock - May be available onboard’ - so only boxes and snack options (pringles, et Al.) available.
can someone explain the point? And how after how long this is still the norm. If I’m preordering, breakfast is what I want to make sure I have.

So there's no point to a) sending a worthless e-mail to b) not be able to place a pre-order for anything so c) catering can deliver whatever it wants and UA's apparently ok with that - even if it is someone else's lunch or nothing at all.
Maybe this is another example of why UA's not making enough money - it can't do what other airlines apparently can.

Anyone know which flights offer the option to preorder your meal when flying first class? I am flying from OGG to ORD this week and I did not receive an email asking me to preselect. Is this because the flight departs from OGG?
I check my reservation and tried the preselect link, but it never gives me an opportunity to preselect.
Thank you.
