  • All UC lounges open including Polaris
  • Normal boarding procedure (no back-to-front nonsense, elites board in Group 1 or preboard)
  • Normal food service
  • Normal drink service
  • No masks required on airplane
By these metrics (1/6) I would confidently say things are not back to normal. Only a few lounges are currently open, food and drink service is limited, but I understand that boarding is back to normal. That's it.

I really don't care about the schedule, domestic is quickly ramping up and international is more dependent on government policies which is beyond UA control.

By your criteria (which I have no dispute with), we are about 12 months away. Food and PL the last to return. Perhaps the food never returns to pre-COVID based on the continually reduction of quality and quantity over the last 6 months prior to COVID.

That's what's currently broken -- schedule & fares.

If you want to see Mickey, South Beach, or Vegas, you're set!

If you want to visit family in the major population centers in the US, you're looking at fares 3x of normal and schedules 25% of normal.

Funny I've been to all three. As for the family, hey they can catch me on the road at one of those three places :-)

I've heard rumors of rumors of rumors of inflight food returning in June.

This seems more than a rumor, a formal press release

i saw that but the plated meals don’t do much for me as I’m rarely upgraded to F. I want meals for purchase on my miscons, transcons, Hawaii, Mexico - not just crappy snack boxes (but heck even boxes would be better than nothing, which was what we had on recent flights to Mexico). And something beyond a tiny bottle of water.

check ORD-SFO, it is not hard to find most days are $400+ roundtrip fares in basic economy especially with UA (add $40+ for non N class), some days are even $500+, pre covid it was less than half of that for basic economy,

Well no burgers but

Customers will be able to purchase these offerings from the Buy-On-Board menu using United's new mobile wallet technology.
A start, suspect more to come.

A Week ago I flew ORD-SFO-ORD, both legs were already in normal procedure, no back to front, GS/1K pre board then group 1

I think this was the 1 of 6 rating, that normal boarding had returned

Happened back in April, United's New Boarding Process (with Wiki) [COVID era changes - ended 15 Apr 2021]

Also peak flying season.

There were a lot of good deals in 1Q, and even some this Q - e.g. I flew midcon for $111 from the east coast to Denver and back (not basic economy fares) just a few weeks ago in early May.

Sorry, I was taking the OP's meal comments to include international. Hence my forecast. And before I jump for joy re: plated meals on domestic under the parameters UA noted, I'd like to see and taste what is being served. Although when it's compared to the carb extravaganza served today, it's a pretty low bar.

I concur about schedule but not sure I agree about fares.

Just purchased SFO-ORD for $150 one-way, this was less than the $200 one-way i paid to for the return. Also saw SFO-BOS for $250 or so a month ago, though moving higher now. And $200 fares to Hawaii from West Coast.

None of these are outrageous in my book though clearly fares are moving higher as inventory disappears for the summer. Now international is another story, Greece went from $2k to $6k RT for business class.

I'm on PHX-SFO right now, and it very much feels like back to normal. Paid F fare was definitely no bargain (>$500). Based on preboarders, at least 2 GS and 6 1K (possibly more behind me), with one of the GS initially seated in Y, pulled into only open F seat by GA right before they closed the door.

second that. We are sooooo far away from normal that it’s tough to say what that will even look like when or if it comes. I see 2023-4 as the real test.

United is very dependent upon its TPAC BUSINESS. Right now that is close to zero and what little there is doesn’t fly with any previous economics. How about SFO-PVG? $7000 for an economy ticket doesn’t exactly invite typical visitors or business flight.
