Speculation on UA's New International Routes Announcement on 19 April 2021

About 10 minutes ago on United's Twitter:
They teased that they would be announcing new international routes tomorrow.

Let the speculation begin.

Hope, hope, hope, seasonal ORD-ATH on 787 equipment. Hope, hope, hope.

But it's just a dream without any basis in reality, and given the existing seasonal EWR-ATH service, highly unlikely.

Just seen an Instagram story on United’s account showing a countdown to “new” international routes announcements for summer 2021.

Presumably for many travelers these routes aren’t new but in fact are reinstatement of routes pulled during the pandemic...

perhaps the numerous schedule changes over the past week were prep for the upcoming announcement.

Wouldn’t be surprised if most of these are Latin American routes. I don’t see how any TPAC is announced at all, and there has been no indication that TATL travel will get easier.

Hoping: SFO-SGN/BOM/NAN ftw

Expecting: additional options to existing outposts in Carribean, Mexico, Central/South America

Though of course far from finalized, Emmanuel Macron did say this morning on Face the Nation that France is working with the US on plans to get vaccinated or tested tourists back across the pond by this Summer...

UA says “new” - something paused within the last 12-18 months doesn’t count as new in my book. Others MMV including UA

IAD-KEF, ORD-KEF, SFO-KEF; Iceland is the only European country open to US (fully vaccinated passengers) at this point.

SFO-SGN may be likely...

Apparently Bamboo Airways is going to start SFO-SGN service in September with 3x/week.

https://airlinegeeks.com/2021/04/18/...flights-to-us/

We will start conducting chartered flights to the U.S. in July and target the launch of non-stop commercial flights between Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco in September, with an initial frequency of three flights per week

Croatia is open to vaccinated U.S. citizens as well. EWR-ZAG/DBV could be possible. I believe there was some thread here on the forums about United rumored to be launching EWR-ZAG?

It would be nice if the LAX-GUM cargo flight started taking pax. As Guam is a U.S. territory, no international approval is needed.

right ... but the note said 'international' .... so

Maybe some expansion out of BOS? Like adding onto the already announced BOS-LHR? Perhaps BOS-CDG?

I would love to see more tpac flights added in the future like BKK and SGN. I'm actually surprised that there are no direct flights to BKK from the US. I suppose if there is one US carrier doing this will probably be UA.
