Welcome to this thread to ask your basic, simple questions about United Airlines, its operations, or the MileagePlus program. We know that the airline is complex and we’ve created this thread for new and veteran members to ask those basic questions about United Airlines that you think must have an easy answer but just can’t find it or aren’t sure where to look.

Have a Simple Question About United Airlines/MileagePlus? Ask Here [2021]
Booked in economy right now—if I upgrade my ticket to first via the “upgrade cabin” feature, what will happen if I change or cancel the trip? It says it is nonrefundable. I don’t care about getting a refund to my credit card, but say I have to cancel, will I get future travel credit if I cancel? If I change the flight, will I be able to apply what I spent on the upgrade to the new flight?

Before accepting the upgrade offer, find out what the price would be for a brand new ticket. If you call, you should be able to pay the difference to up-fare and then you can be sure that the credit would be retained in the ticket.
However, note that all UA non-refundable fares are currently being sold with an ignore-residual policy. That means that if the new itinerary is cheaper than the old one, UA pockets the difference. So, if you have a $300 ticket, and you pay a $400 up-fare, and then you have to cancel, you'll have a $700 credit... but unless your next ticket is at least $700, you'll be forfeiting the difference.

Not seeing a 2021 thread yet, so I'll continue here with a quick question about PlusPoints...
I went from non-status to 1K in December 2020 after completing 4 flights on UA metal. On 12/12/2020, 320 PlusPoints posted to my account with an expiration of 1/31/2022. Is that my allotment of PlusPoints for the 2020 or the 2021 program year? That is, should I expect to receive an additional 320 PlusPoints in January 2021? Thanks in advance for the clarification.

So, you will not be receiving any further PlusPoints in 2021 for activity in 2020.

I'm coming from the Air Canada program where you are granted upgrade instruments (eUpgrade credits) in January based on the level you reached the previous year -- unless you went from non-status to status before ~Oct 15th in which case they'd give you eUpgrade credits right away for that year's program as well as a new batch in January of the following year. Based on that experience, I was surprised to see that I received PlusPoints right away in December. Thanks again!

I used United Hotels website to book 3 hotel reservations last year. While the miles were credited to my account, they posted the wrong number of miles. I checked https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly...l-and-car.html and none of the hotels that I stayed at were listed. I used the contact form to contact UA/mileageplus and they just sent me the same link. Any ideas what to do?

This was in October and I was credited 50% of the actual miles that were stated on the email for all three hotel reservations. I booked only local hotels (not hotel chains).
I used United Hotels in February 2020 as well and they credited me the correct amount. In February 2020, I stayed at some of the same hotels that I did in October - so no idea what happened.

It's likely easiest if you can send them a screenshot of the offers.

I don't have experience MP hotel tie-ins other than Marriott, but I suppose I would try contacting MPSC (link) and see if they can get things sorted.

I want to book award ticket from MCI-BOM oneway, can I get free stopover for 3/4 days in EWR e.g MCI-EWR-BOM? If not, is it possible with RT award ticket?

No, and no. The free stopover rule has been replaced with the "Excursionist Perk," and MCI-EWR-BOM-MCI does not qualify for that. If you want to book that flight, it will add the prices for each leg together -- no discounts.

I'd like to rebook one segment of a J ticket to be widebody trans-Atlantic (it is currently on a 757) and the change in fare is only about $30. Will this result in a complete refund of the initial ticket and a rebooking for the entire amount or just generate a charge of around $90 for the three of us?
Thanks in advance!
