@:-)

This pretty much sums up not only this thread but MP in general.

The glory days are long behind us. UA is making tons of money and has no incentive to keep us happy.

Flying ORD-BOS in 12 hours. It's a 752 with 24 in business. 18 have already been upgraded. 2 seats left. Seat map shows 3 open seats. I'm #3 on the CPU list.

Is it going to me by lucky day?

I guess it's my lucky day. I got upgraded as Gold! On ORD-BOS, which I presume it's elite heavy.

Going to buy a lottery ticket today.

Congrats! ^

However, a Wednesday, mid-day flight's pressure is less from elites than from TODs; it's very off-peak. Maybe you should buy only a scratch-off ticket.

Fair enough Guess I'll make sure my travels are mid-week (thankfully I can pull that off).

Btw, my TOD was $149 for ORD-BOS. No way was I going to pay that.

My wife and I, each MM golds, are averaging about 25% upgrades on TPA-EWR or EWR-TPA this year. Of course the day and time matters, but chosing carefully does have benefits.^

Take the 6am flights out of TPA and golds usually get upgraded.

Less capacity, more elites, more ToD upgrades, etc.
+1 Always got a CO upgrade into IAH. Last year as 1K - zippo.

+1 Sadly UA's strategy is working. Better to do TOD to guarantee comfort than roll dice on E+ (which is often sold out by the time I buy)

Just completed a Mileage Run DEN-IAH-CUN-PTY-POA-PTY-DEN last weekend.

Went 4/6 on upgrades. IAH-CUN-PTY-POA-PTY. Thank god, back to back 6+ hour flights in Copa Y would be killer. All cleared at 48 hrs or earlier.

Also holds my 100% CPU record on Copa, a cool 9/9 in 3 years. Too bad those are officially going away in 5 days .
