Best domestic routings for newbie avgeek
Greetings,
I mostly travel by Amtrak and am a hard core rail fan. But I also enjoy flying and traveling in general. I live in Chicago. I have been flying with United since the 1990s and have 144626 life time miles since then. Nothing compared to most of the people here, but I am exploring different ways to address my travel jones since Amtrak is reducing service in October.
Also, since United has extended the time to earn elite status, I thought this would be a good time to try for at least Gold.
I know I would like to try one of the premium transcontinental routings. Are there other interesting routes to travel in the US? In the future once international travel opens up I plan to do a RTW in business class use chase points. I currently have 144,000 of those.
Thank you

United did not extend the time to earn elite status this year. They extended everyone's 2020 status to Jan 2022 instead ending it on Jan 2021. And they reduced the 2021 elite status requirements by about 50%. To achieve Gold for now and through 2021, you need to have 24 PQF and 8,000 PQP or 10,000 PQP by 12/31/2020.

That’s cool. Like the map
I was messing around with the multi Citi ticketing and managed a fare of 554 in first class from ord-lax-den-sea all on one day.
I don’t mind stopping in hubs because my select plus status with Amtrak gets me in the lounges.
Appreciate your patience and indulgence with me. Love to travel and learning the avgeek game is fascinating to me.
That island hopper is on my to do list too.
