Some of the flights are completely full. Some are near empty. Some are in between.

A great general answer to a general question, covering the full spectrum. If load is too light, UA may cancel the flight if aircraft is not needed at outstation.

UA to cancel flights with light loads

Is this a concerning about "distancing" inflight Or a conern about cancellations or ????

Loads vary depending on routes, so some indication of route will help to get a better answer.

Just did a RT to MKE thru ORD and we flew 2x2 planes. All were nearly full. Usually one leg of the flight would have been 737. UA is keeping loads higher by flying smaller planes and fewer flights.

I wouldn’t expect many empty flights.

Just flew ORD-FLL and back. Down was on an A320 that was at least 80% full. Base was on an E170 that had three empty seats. Last week flew ORD-PIT...those flights were about 50% full. ORD-IAD...about 75% full. ORD-MDT...about 50% full.

I’ve flown 5 r/t’s in last 6 weeks on 737/A320/E175 out of and return to ORD and all 10 segments have been 75% to full.

Increasing in general. I have had flights where I was the only paying passenger and others where there wasn't an empty seat. I have heard the rumors of UA cancelling empty or almost empty flights and believe that is all they are rumors. Passenger loads are only one of several things that need to be considered when cancelling flights I can think of crew relocations, cargo, and onward connecting flights to name three.

Also, UA has been flying a lot of international routes for the purpose of moving freight. Many of these flights do carry passengers for the marginal revenue they can get from the handful of passengers.

My first trip in 177 days, MCI-RAP, it was a mix. The outbound mainline flights were full in F and Y, though the return E170 RAP-ORD was fairly empty. IIRC, we had one empty in F (I believe blocked for FA distancing) and Y was barely 50% full.

How are the load factors for your guys' flights in economy? Flying with my mom LAX to SFO in 3 weeks and she's spooked if we have to sit next to someone
