Spectacular PZ availability TATL into 2021. Rebooked my award tickets

Booked a K-class bulk fare BOS-ZRH-BRU-BOS for $730 with an OTA when UA was selling cheapest V-class fares for $1430. Saved $1400 on this and burned 320 of by 520 +Ps. A win in my books!

True and good luck keeping the upgrades.

I booked a trip directly with UA, in Premium Plus (R and B fares), just to have it downgraded to a different itinerary on W.
One domestic segment didn't have PZ and agents refused to keep the upgrade even though it was an involuntary change.

In another thread I was told UA keeps the upgrades in case of involuntary changes but that's not my experience. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

This was booked before the gone TPAC PZ in May.
I doubt these flights will be operated and will probably have to refund the whole thing because UA will refuse to honour the upgrades.

At this point I just want to burn all my PlusPoints on cheap K fares and be done with loyalty, it's just not worth it anymore.

this was booked to be pretty safe such that a schedule change would not cause any issues. But agreed, this can be a downside.

Interesting that over the past few days, a number of TPAC bookings I made in late 2020 for summer and fall 2021 travel have upgraded W->PN using PlusPoints. Perhaps they turned on the advance upgrade process after what appears to be a long pause?

United has opened up PZ and IN spaces for TPac flights recently. See this thread.

Had two pure UA flights cancelled, both PP-confirmed upgrades, needed to rebook four weeks later from original dates.
Flight 1: agent honors upgrade and all confirmed and email received!
Flight 2/different PNR and new phone call: refused to honor upgrade, only WL - oh well

I was able to get friends - neither with any status - upgraded on a crowded OGG (or is it OOG?) flight from DEN....
I have been lucky with comp upgrades - but unclear (I am sure this has been discussed elsewhere, but too lazy to search) what is higher priority PP or status or PP+status?

Got my entire family upgraded (4 ppl plus me) on ORD -> MSY a couple of weeks ago. Kids loved it.

ETA: just saw this is Polaris....oops.

GS status or GS PlusPoints beat all non-GS individuals
Plus Points beats all non-GS CPU
Inside each group, the traveler status and fare class prioritizes
Travelers on common PNR all have the high elite's status

South America routes have plenty of upgrade spaces and low fares. I cannot use my PPs because I purchase cheap business fares on other airlines. For instance, I got the mistake fares on AA, JFK-GIG, for Dec 2021-Jan 2022.

What has your PlusPoint experience been in 2021?

None of my requested PlusPoints upgrades have cleared in 2021. I have flown 51 times with United in 2021.

Yesterday I was flying solo on a 788 IAD-SFO and was not upgraded with PlusPoints. I originally requested the upgrade weeks ago. This means that there were also zero CPUs. I am 1K.

Last week my wife and I were on a 752 LAX-IAH and neither got upgraded using Pluspoints.

During most of Covid I easily cleared with CPUs but in 2021 I do not even clear with PlusPoints.

Thoughts?
