Miles flight ORD to Frankfurt
 
So I can fly premium economy ORD to Frankfurt for 45K miles or Business On 767-300 Hi-J for 60k miles. Buying 3 seats for family. Thoughts?

Can you fly Lufthansa business class for 60K each? If so, that's the way to go.

Lufthansa doesn’t open Business Class bookings until about 2-3 weeks out. I would book Lufthansa and change to it if it becomes available right before travel. This is for late spring/early summer 2021... assuming Covid is better.

LH J costs more miles and honestly for a short overnight TATL I would prefer Polaris.

There's a pretty good chance it won't be a 763 by then. Historically, UA has flown two 772s daily on the ORD-FRA route. LH has mostly been two 748s daily.

No, LH is 77k miles. That aside, UA wins here on a 763 IMO and the OP still has access to the FRA arrival lounge

LH opens inventory all the time, there is no such thing as 2-3 weeks out. LH opens F inventory 10 days before the flight and that might be a nice opportunity to spend a LOT more miles, but for a great product.

772 would be fine too... flying with family it would let one of us be near our daughter rather than the 1 1 1 configuration on the “new” 767.

LH's soft product is better, but the hard product lags significantly to UA's Polaris.
