TPAC upgrade space blocked?

I can't find any PZ availability to the Asia Pacific region (TPE/HKG/SIN/ICN/TYO/SYD/MEL/etc) anymore.
There was some availability a few weeks ago but now everything seems to be gone.

Any guesses about what's going on? Is this a bug or waitlist-only is another MileagePlus "enhancement"?

PZ inventory comes and goes. It's neither a bug nor an "enhancement" -- it's just inventory control. I suspect someone at UA has decided to curtail upgrade inventory in the current environment when they're not really sure what their schedule is going to look like.

Makes sense and I suspect that as well. I'm just surprised with the curtailment coverage this time.
I'd expect very limited PZ/PN inventory but not everything set to zero overnight.

Of course upgrade space is quickly removed but they're happy to sell seats with the schedule uncertainty.

Speaking selfishly for (likely) a minority of UA's customer base, I might give UA some revenue if they open up PN/PZ on some routes I'm interested in. I'm one who will only buy long-haul coach fares if upgrade space is available at booking in international markets with high J fares (AKA everywhere but Europe).

So, you are asking United to make available a $6k J seat for $1k?

I doubt that would be a business model at all. It isn't tradio, it's a multi billion dollar corporation with PRASM goals

Same here, I book trips I don't need just to use my PlusPoints but I have no intention of playing the upgrade lottery.

I didn't see any request to make a $6k J seat for cheaper, PZ inventory is only available when UA is confident the J seat won't be sold.

Yes, this happened on May 20, almost all TPAC PZ wiped out except close up ones.

This happened when Kirby became the CEO.
Oscar becomes Exec Chairman, Kirby becomes CEO on 20 May 2020

So it is an "enhancement" after all...

Having watched PN space closely for a trip in October, I don't see any (historically speaking) "normal" shifts with PZ or PN space. Everything seems to just be stagnant. Side note: I've only watched for domestic space.

That sounds normal, upgrade space for domestic (and Canada) routes have always been very limited in advance.

TPAC used to have a somewhat reliable PN/PZ inventory if checked long in advance and on days with low business travel demand, like Wednesdays.

Agreed about domestic being limited in advance, but the PN/PZ inventory hasn't moved at all. Flights that were PN2 for example are still PN2. Flights that were PN0 are still PN0. Nothing has moved at all within the past 6-8 weeks. I'm sure there are a lot more pressing issues than manually opening upgrade space, but something tells me that more automated procedures to adjust upgrade inventory availability just aren't happening. I don't know if that's true for international or not, but something is definitely weird domestically.

I actually was looking for other anecdotal evidence here on FT the other day but wasn't able to find anything.

I don't monitor domestic upgrade space closely but that makes a lot of sense. Automated processes were paused because the historical booking data isn't accurate anymore.
I hope this is just a temporary measure so they can adjust their models but from what I read on this forum, Kirby is an expert on alienating loyal customers and I wouldn't be surprised if this is another "enhancement".
