United now revoking previously given ETC and Refunds

Hi Folks,
As some of you know, I had about 400 tickets booked that ended up needing to be cancelled. Over the process, they were either refunded, credited or given ETC. I am now getting emails from United downgrading tickets that were agreed to be refunded that are now being given only as credits. Then a number of the tickets that were given as ETC have now been downgraded into credits.

They are the lowest of the low....

Maybe I’m missing something, but HOW on earth did you have 400 tickets booked, considering you can only book 330 days out? Also, if you are in-fact a non-rev, WHY would you have so many tickets booked?

Are they taking money that was already refunded back from you somehow, or notifying you that refunds they'd agreed to process are no longer going to be processed? That is alarming and appalling, in either case.

I think CO_Nonrev_elite had booked trips for a team of more than ten people, each on separate tickets -- or something like that.

How are the refunds being revoked? There is likely a credit card issuer issue here?

Were the refunds handled directly by UA or by a third party / travel agent?

Due to the nature of the situation, is there something special that is leading to this?

If you have something in writing agreeing to refund those tickets into the original form of payment, and now they are changing, given the money involved, I would suggest reaching out to an attorney for guidance.

At what point turns an airline into a criminal organization?

400 tickets? Are you a travel agent? How is this possible? Just curious.

Agree. And I certainly wouldn't infer that whatever UA is doing on refunds in this situation applies to ordinary travelers.

If others start to suffer problems like this, then I hope they post here about it.

for “400” tickets, perhaps there are family members on the same flight and confirmation number, but of course a different ticket number. A family of 6 traveling to 5 places on one-ways would be 30 or 36 tickets, correct?

OP had other posts below. Looks like OP travels with a big group almost daily. Not sure all of the tickets were charged to OP's credit card.

Either OP is truly unique or others will post about similar problems.

There have definitely been complaints about UA saying "no, wait, we changed our mind" about refunds that had been promised. I think we need to hear more details about how this revocation is happening before we can really draw any conclusions.

Certainly not at the point where someone makes an accusation without providing any evidence.
