United / Ansett Australia Circle Pacific Fare Brochure circa mid-1990s

Since we're not flying these days, thought I would share something I came across while going through my storage. This brochure was for the HKG market for Ansett Australia / United circle pacific fare.

I ballpark this brochure in the mid 1990s, probably around 1995 or 1996. Before Star Alliance was founded.
Fare prices were fixed in HKD. Using late 1995 exchange rates, this puts the fares at $2,222 in Y, $3,384 in J, and $5,200 in F.
Adjusted for inflation in 2020 dollars: $3,763 in Y, $5,731 in J, and $8,807 in F.

*A has circle pacific fares today too: https://roundtheworld.staralliance.c...circle-pacific

Really great find! The map also shows the short-lived Osaka-Guam and Saipan service, so this would have been late 1994 or early 1995. An announcement of those routes and the LAX-Osaka route, also long gone. Also on this map you can see the HKG-DEL route, part of UA's own RTW flight.

Brings back memories, at this time there was a combo UA TG RTW fare in FC for around 5000 USD ex-HKG. When Star came into existence all these products were retired in favor of Star fares which gave more options but were quite a bit more expensive..

Did Ansett have 747-300s? That looks like one in the pic, but it has 744 engines.

Thanks OP for bringing back a good memory of Ansett. I remember how excited I was when Ansett joined Star Alliance in 1999. UA had a great relationship with Ansett at the time.

Ansett did operate three 747-300s, but it also have two leased 747-400 from SQ for a period of time.

I never got a chance to fly Ansett but heard good things about them. I only flew Qantas in the mid 90s on their 747SP.

Agreed. Even today flying in Australia seems a lot more civilized than in the US

And, IMO, horrible livery on the UA 744. I always hated those dark colors. I think that came during Stephen Wolf's time at UA, no? And I think he did more or less the same thing at US Air.

I rather liked them but I may be biased since my first plane ride was in one of those battleship grey 744s.

I flew with Ansett a ton when I lived in SYD , around OZ , south pacific and up and down to Osaka , kissed goodbye to 800k miles when they went under...oh well
Do you remember Biz first and "chef" up front ??? Interestingly several months after they failed I was sitting half awake on a US airways 737 in
PHL and did a double take at the Ansett logo on the food table, I guess they must have picked a few up.

Stephen Wolf was a guy who LOVED grey. He also felt the color scheme was more formal and better suited internationally. I did not like the battleship livery at the time. It was such a dark scheme compared to the one it replaced.

In the sea of Euro-white, Iíve come to appreciate it. I love the branding that came along with it, many of it using the blue stripes from the tail as the theme. This motif was actually introduced around 1990 or so when CKS Group designed some printed materials for UAL and it was loved so much they said to put in the next livery. I have a few items from that time that have the Saul Bass font.
