Safety updates to inflight dining
Your safety and the safety of our employees is our highest priority. To try and further limit potential exposure to coronavirus (COVID-19) on board, we’re temporarily adjusting our inflight service as of March 29 and will be moving to primarily pre-packaged foods and sealed beverages. Preorder meals and food for purchase will not be available. We’re also unable to offer special meals except for Kosher meals on flights to and from Tel Aviv.
Beverage changes for all flights
We will be offering sealed beverages on all flights. If you’re on a flight under 1 hour, you’ll receive beverages on request. We’ll also offer coffee and tea on domestic flights departing before 9:45 a.m. and on all international and premium transcontinental flights. Non-alcoholic beverages are complimentary, and alcoholic beverages are complimentary in premium cabins. Wine and beer are also complimentary in United Economy® on long-haul international flights.
Food changes for domestic flights
We won't have snacks available in United Economy for flights under 2 hours and 20 minutes or in United First® for flights under 1 hour. As always, you're welcome to bring snacks on board. For flights between 1 hour and 2 hours and 20 minutes in United First, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks.
For flights 2 hours and 20 minutes or longer, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks in United Economy. In the premium cabin, you'll be offered a snack box.
Food changes for premium transcontinental flights
If you're flying in United Economy or Economy Plus®, you'll receive an "all-in-one" snack bag with a wrapped sanitizer wipe, 8.5-ounce bottled water and two snacks. Customers in the premium cabin will receive their meal with their entrée choice covered and will be offered a packaged snack for pre-arrival.
Food changes for international flights
In United Economy®, you’ll receive an entrée, a snack and packaged dessert, as well as pre-packed mid-flight and pre-arrival items on select flights. Everything is served packaged or covered for you to unwrap.
In United Premium Plus® and United Polaris® business class, your entrée, dessert and bread will be served together. Everything is served packaged or covered for you to unwrap. You’ll receive a pre-packaged snack for midflight and a fresh packaged meal for pre-arrival on select flights.

Maybe UA is just has a large backlog of food and that they are trying to use up. Old snack boxes for short F flights. Old frozen F (or E+) meals to intl

Or even on Polaris transcon flights. I mean, up until recently UA hadn't really reduced rates until B6 came to EWR and UA was already serving packaged fruit cups for dinner on premium transcon markets, quite insulting if you ask me.

Has anyone flown one of the longer flights from Hawaii recently? We're booked 9/11 HNL-ORD on UA 218. Premier desk says to expect something hot (a la premium transcon). Website shows "Snack". COVID-19 page is clear that it's snack box only. Would be interesting to hear what others have seen on the (very few currently operating) longer hauls out of HNL.

Haven't experienced recent meals to Hawaii, but I have done four flights in Polaris business EWR SFO EWR and the meals were horrible--fruit cup, packaged water crackers, packaged chocolate chip cookie, and a small hot entree (choice of pasta or protein)

Are you going to Hawaii for at least 14 days? There are many reports of people getting arrested for not following the state's strict quarantine requirements. Just want you to be aware.

We won’t have too much time in HNL as we are flying from Maui (all 1 ticket). It’s just odd that UA doesn’t even know what UA is doing. We will bring snacks for us, but our 3 year old would be overjoyed by an economy style meal with fruit cup for the longer flight. Otherwise it may end up being a mad dash to find terribly overpriced airport food before the longer flight.
Hoping for the Polaris seat 788 also since its I’ve yet to fly on a reconfigured 788.

We have been here for a month and a half or so. Heading back home...so no worries there. Thanks for the heads-up though 👍 Flew in SFO-OGG so was expecting the snack box, but previously the IAH/ORD/EWR flights tended to have upgraded meals.

Still a red-eye, but it departs at 6:30pm. Well inside the old meal window. Have done HA-UA before and sometimes have luck getting the fee waived, but fully prepared to pay the $20.

Oddly I can get back earlier to COS flying the HNL-ORD flight, but suffer the CR2 for ORD-COS. I refuse to do that so I’ll take the OGG-SFO flight which is pure domestic.

Anyone know what, if anything UA is offering in Y on shorter domestic routes? Just curious if it's something like Delta where you get a bag that has a small water and snack or if it's absolutely nothing at all.
