Suspect the up front seats are for the crew and the rest may be the standard blocked seats

The seat map does not show any useful information on charters, ferries, and now, cargo flights.

Those are standard blocked seats, not actually occupied seats.

How are these flights catered for the crew? Boxed meals?

I don't know. Probably the same way the crew meals have always been catered. I haven't heard of any changes.

Do the cargo (no pax) flights require FA's (from a legal perspective, not actual passenger safety)?

I posted something in another thread a few weeks back, and someone cited the FAR about # of seats, not actual pax load dictates amount of FA's required. But does running only cargo make that null?

if there are no pax, there shouldn't be any need for FA's. CO use to run baggage charters to Mexico with bags in all the seats, but only pilots. No difference than a maintenance ferry or reposition flight.

If they put one pax on the plane, then you'd have to min staff based on amount of seats.

Correct, via federal aviation regulations, part 121 (schedule airlines), number 391:

(a) Except as specified in 121.393 and 121.394, each certificate holder must provide at least the following flight attendants on board each passenger-carrying airplane when passengers are on board [emphasis added]...

Think United will do what Air Canada is doing? Pulling seats out of 773's for cargo.

they saying only economy and premium economy. But dang that has to be labor intensive to put cargo in there because of no frieght doors.

IATA is recommending that there be some crew in the cabin for fire suppression reasons. I also know the Singapore CAA is mandating cabin crew for that reason too.

Interestingly (although not surprisingly, given the labor required to install such seats) the J cabins are being left alone on the "cargo" 77Ws.

I guess I'm not familiar with how flight crew meals are catered on flights with no cabin crew. Do they use the galley equipment to heat their own food? Or just sandwiches / other cold meals?

Seeking FAA approval.

Cant just pull seats out and load cargo as the planes were not designed to do that. Oxygen/Smoke/Fire suppression systems are significantly different in cargo versus passenger specific aircraft. Like others said upstream, there most likely will have to be some sort of trained fire suppression crew to monitor the cargo in flight.
