The temporary C club with no liquor at ORD can wait. Hoping for F or B18 to open!

While you are there (ORD B18), you should consider going to Tuscany Cafe. I have enjoyed their food for a very long time and even when I am flying out of C, I'll still do the walk over there. Their wine selection (at least pre-COVID) wasn't bad for an airport restaurant.

In the IAH C Club now (~6:30pm local time on a Wednesday) -- on my way to GRU (C7 departure) in J -- club is probably a little >50% "full" based on number of seats with humans vs. unoccupied/luggage/etc.

Little disappointed that none of the Polaris recognition mentioned in other clubs and the food selection is entirely Ritz products with a little basket of Lorna Dune -- this includes Ritz products I've never heard of will definitely avoid in the future ("Ritz Chips")

I'm still confused on UA response on why they aren't opening non-market hub UC's...For example MCO. That specific club almost never has more than 15-20 people there at a time. I'm confused why they refuse to open it...

Again it comes down to UA using # of members/day as a metric to drive reopening. The fact that it "almost never has more than 15-20 people at a time" (pre-pandemic) is probably more in the "not to open" column than the "to open" column -- if you assume the at least 2/3rs of those people aren't flying right now that gives you 5-7 people which isn't sustainable. (That said every time I've been in the MCO club it's been close to capacity, but I only have maybe a dozen samples over the past 5 years so I could just have bad luck)

UA may be holding back on formally closing specific clubs on a "permanent" basis - for whatever reason (WRT permanent closing) and why they're withholding such announcements (perhaps as a compromise to Chase).

Could be a bloodbath.

If they start closing all clubs outside of hubs and major focus cities like LAX, so we end up saying goodbye to ATL, FLL, SNA, etc etc., the value in having a club membership whether bought from United or via a Chase card membership is diminished substantially....but then again when did Kirby ever care about offering a great product to customers. I don't know many UC members who are receiving a membership for free from their employer (OPM), so most people in the club are either there because they paid for a membership, a premium Chase card, or *G flying international. Even with a shift to leisure travel, the same people are likely going to find the very same value in their membership regardless of the primary purpose of travel unless we just assume that travel volume in general will be vastly depressed long term to the point where club operations just can't be sustained by the revenue received - meaning, compounding numbers of non-renewals and a drastic fall in new memberships.

Now that theory becomes a vicious cycle - by closing clubs and offering crackers and crap in the clubs that are open, United is basically setting the stage for a growing number of members to just walk away. Between my *G membership and my Amex Plat card, I am questioning why I need to keep my Presidential Plus Chase card. In fact, if I get the Chase Sapphire Reserve, it comes with a PP Select Membership so I can just dine in an airport restaurant on real food where I don't have access to an Amex Centurion Lounge or Amex/PP partner lounge.

Most likely posted before, but in case not: if 'Polaris Lounge eligible', United will issue an "enhanced offerings" coupon when entering an UC:

Discussed a bit in the Polaris Let's Eat thread. At EWR I received Salami and crackers and one premium drink with the sticker on my boarding pass. Here's to hoping its improved since then. But I doubt it..

Really would like to see UA get bolder in reopening clubs at this point. As of right now, DL has 30 lounges open, AA has 24 open and UA has only 9 open (soon to be 11). Heck, even Amex has 9 open now. I get the cash crunches, but people are paying for these memberships.

The club neat gate C-1 at IAH was very busy when I visited at 9 am this morning. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, muffins, apple sauce all available. I had two eggs and appreciated the protein. Bar was open but I didn’t order anything or inquire about the selection.

Seriously. Instead of a wide open Polaris lounge, they are offering ONE drink at the United Club? That is crazy.

Yes. One premium drink and the aforementioned salami and crackers snack. I doubt its changed much since then.

The service cutbacks are deliberate. Don't count on them to change course one bit and open up any more lounges. I'm betting it'll be Q2 2021 before they do.
