United 1891 ORD-SFO (6 March 2020) new 789 delayed to reboot plane

Nice suprise that flight a brand new plane and up front in Polaris hard product.

Little scary pilot told us it takes 30 minutes to reboot. Sure wouldnt want to have to reboot while in the air. Lol

Brand new airplanes (in this case, delivered last week) tend have some early electronics quirks that eventually resolve completely. Nothing unusual. The notion that "it's brand new, everything should just work" isn't really applicable to airplanes.

Don't worry, Boeing is still a little better at this than LockMart.

Not really a new issue, this was true for the older generation aircraft also. Just look at how long it takes to reboot the entertainment systems.

That's why they test readiness on the ground

I remember being on a new Continental 777 in Houston in the '90's when we were delayed to reboot the computers. The plane made an uneventful flight to Newark.

Let's hope this doesn't result:

A shipment of 25 African birds, two genets, and 25 tortoises aboard the plane was diverted to an Anchorage warehouse, where eight birds and three tortoises died before the mislabeled shipment was discovered.[6]
I had an ERJ-175 flight need to reboot - as we taxied out, the lights started flashing on and off. Went to a hold area, rebooted, and were on our way 45 minutes later (a good part of which was the extra two taxis)

I had a ERJ-145 in IAH that needed new software installed. They then had to bring out the floppy disks (not joking) and it took 2+ hours to install the new software.

Yep, but alot of little issues. Had to do safety announcement manually. Call buttons and reading lights not work. Wifi wasnt working. Power outlet by remote not working. Luckily usb by monitor was working.

And the shade on my window had a mind of it's own. Was changing tint levels on its own. (Just mine not whole plane)

Couple of years ago flying EWR-LHR on a 767 after boarding was complete the captain made an announcement that there was a MX issue and the entire electrical system had to be powered down and recycled which didn't take long and resolved the issue. What did take time was reprogramming the 'computer'.
