$10K downgrade compensation today, UA363 EWR-HNL
There was some INSANE downgrade comp today -- on UA 363 from EWR to HNL.
Last minute tail swap caused the 777 thats normally on the route to go to a 763.
I was on this flight (unfortunately in Y) and they needed ten volunteers to move from J to Y+ (albeit in the PP seats). They ended up offering 10K for people to give up the beds.

I would have considered taking the money and then skipping the flight.

Because someone at United finally realized that paying out is cheaper than the bad publicity of invol actions. This is also faster than the inevitable arguments that have to be handled one at at time, 10x, then the time it takes to find people some people who want to be rerouted, possibly 10x.
