You need a more aggressive vision. I'm going with "Just changed jobs, and I was going to be the new Tom Stuker with travel to China and HKG so please reward me accordingly"

Assuming China travel resumes in the second half, a "targetted" double PQP promotion could be a response.

I’m under the impression that UA management simply fixes the number of GS invites so I would speculate the number won’t change, just the mix of travelers. There will be fewer Asian travelers and more European and Domestic GS members in 2021. Just a guess.

Just a reference point and may not be specific to GS qualifications:

Back in 2001 post 9/11, air travels took a huge hit, PMUA extended all elite flyers’ status for an additional 12 months regardless of the 2001 flying activities.

I switched job from an international travel job to a domestic no travel job just two weeks before 9/11 occurred, and my 1K status was extended to 12/31/2002, although I had less activities in 2001 even to requalify for Premier status.

IMHO, the Coronavirus is limited to countries in East Asia at the moment, so the chance to have any special accommodation for GS qualification appears unlikely at the moment. If it becomes a global outbreak (hope it won’t ever happen), the last thing I would care about is the GS qualification. Seriously! There will be more important things for us to worry about!

On this forum, unlikely.

This forum experiences a Global outbreak every January, not a global outbreak every January.

Has anyone qualified for GS this year that didn't have GS status last year? What was your spend PQP this year thus far?

Trying to find out if there's any truth in United easing invitation requirement this year. It seems normal years it is appx $50k spend in tickets.

thanks in advance

Do you think that has changed for 2020 to $25,000 like the rest of the tier qualifications have been cut in half?

Typically United has notified ppl (of following year GS status) starting in December, with the majority of renewals and first time GS being notified in January.
As all 2020 GS are renewed through 1/2022 this means any new 2021 GS would probably get notified early January... doubt there'll be many though!
As to what spend requirements in 2020 will qualify for 2021 GS is pure speculation... both in a normal year, but especially this year!

Ugh. I'm going to hit over 25k PQP or $25,000 this year but am willing to push it if I knew there was a chance.

Travel is at 40% vs. previous year, and its down a lot more for business travel / international. At $25k, I think you will meet the threshold.

I’m already over $60K USD for 2020. COVID didn’t keep me down. Does anyone know if PQD from 2020 will be added to PQD for 2021 re 2022 status? Or if our 2020 PQD is effectively ignored due to the automatic status extension?

That sort of spend is unlikely to go unnoticed in a year like 2020.

That said, we're not going to be privy to any formulaic process that recognizes it vis-à-vis GS.

Time will tell but I question how desirous UA is to add new GS's in 2021 who only spent $25K in 2020, on the assumption that in a "normal" year this same person (who never qualified before) would have spent $50K.
