PQP posting for cash upgrades, E+ fees, ..... when? No RDMs

The following purchases earn PQP:
  • Base fare + surcharge
  • Economy Plus® seating or subscriptions
  • Preferred seat purchases
  • *NEW* MileagePlus Upgrade Award co-pays
  • *NEW* Paid upgrades on flights operated by United and United Express
  • *NEW* Flights ticketed and operated by our Star AllianceTM partners
PQPs for seat fees, upgrade fees / sticker-upgrades, co-pays, ... are posting separate from the flight PQPs and this seems to occur 1-2-3 days after the flight.
These separately posting extra PQPs are not RDM earning (as these fees did not in the past).

An alternative to Upgrade Fees that would earn RMDs is "Upfaring" -- this is a formal ticket change and not really possible to do online (due to change fee issues and UA system issues). You will need to call and specifically ask for an upfare. Change fees should be waived per "GG BUYUP" and then validate the receipt states "ADD/COLLECT" and not "Premium Cabin Upgrade / PCU" or "Merchandising / EDD". The new Fare class is not a significant indicator of what was done.
In the case of upfaring, the base fare will be adjusted and the new adjusted base fare will post as the PQP for the flight and fully earn RDMs.
Note: Upfaring agency issued tickets may be possible to do.

PQP posting for cash upgrades, E+ fees, ..... when? No RDMs

Hi all,

I thought I read somewhere that “buy-ups” from economy to Business-First would counts towards PQP for 2020? I paid $358 to “buy-up” from economy to business-first on a HNL-LAX flight the other day, but the dollars I spent for the buy-up doesn’t show in my PQP totals. Does it take a few days to credit?

Thanks

It should credit within a day or two of completing the flight.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this actually happening. I had one from 3 days ago and it still has not credited. Just want to see if anyone has actually ever received it

I don't have personal knowledge of it, but there have been several board reports that it has shown up as a separate line item 24-48 hours after the flight. If it's still not there after a week, I'd write or call.

This is good reminder, though, that anyone who takes a buy-up and cares about PQP needs to track it separately in case it doesn't appear.

I have 2 data points.
  • Domestic flight - buy up from Y to F. Activity page shows PQP posted day of flight but I am certain I didn't see it in my PQP total until a couple days afterward.
  • Intl flight - mileage plus upgrade from Y (not fare bucket) to PP AND Polaris. Cleared to PP, Polaris upgrade did NOT clear. PQP for copay to Polaris posted with date of day of flight but I don't recall when I saw it in PQP total. PQP reversed 17 days after day of flight. However, this also coincided with the reply I got to a refund request I submitted online for the $425. Side note... while they took away the PQP, they still haven't processed the $425 copay refund.

My question too....is it a separate line item: "buy up for $378 = 378 PQP? Is it in activity in one's account?

Mine show as a separate line item and have posted two or so days after the flight, but backdated to the flight date.

This is what it looks like. Separate line item in activity. THe mileageplus upgrade description was also it's own line item with "MileagePlus Upgrade Award - PQP"

Do ancillary purchases attached to an award booking (E+, potentially kiosk-sold upgrades) qualify for PQPs? Do they post automatically, or has anyone had to call in to get them to post?

They do, and should post within a few days of your flight. If they don't, call MP customer service.

Do you also get RDM (with elite multiplier) for the $s spent on the upgrade? I called GS and they said that it would include both RDM and PQP as a post-flight adjustment (after checking with somebody else). Thanks!

Hello,

I had two ancillary purchases from a recent trip that did not post right away. I wrote in, and not surprisingly, got a response that United was having problems with the change to PQPs and there were significant delays in the timing of credits posting for ancillary purchases. Probably another 24 hours after that is when my account finally squared away. Almost two weeks after the trip ended.
