no more IFE games?

First the music, now the games?

Flying DEL-EWR right now - got bored enough that I decided to look at the IFE games. Only it turns out there aren't any anymore! Quite possibly it's been like this for a long time as I can't remember the last time I looked for the games, but I can't find any mention of it on FT.

On the plus side, Channel 9 has been on!

The games went away quite some time ago. I don't recall seeing them in 2019 at all.

Without a separate controller in Y, video games in touchscreen seatback-mounted monitors are utterly loathsome. In that regard, I am glad they are gone.

One can certainly make the case for them in premium cabins, but in that case, if we limit games to premium cabins, why pay to license them when they're limited to ~20% of the pax load to begin with, and most likely have low uptake? Tablet/smartphones are better gaming platforms anyway (admittedly, I am the farthest thing from a gamer). Personally, I'd rather see United spend more on video programming, especially considering that embedded IFE has access to some studio content before streaming services.

With literally everyone and their mother having cell phones nowadays, the need for in-flight games seems kindof... 1980s.

I second EWR 764's suggestion what more in-movie content would be better. Frankly, I'd like to see more full seasons of shows. I'd love to "netflix binge" shows on long flights that I may not have pre-loaded to my personal device.

My poor mother, she doesn't have a cell phone :-) But your point is valid. I'd agree on the TV shows too - I don't watch a lot of TV regularly, so as with movies, my flights are when I might do so.
