The CNBC article says a reduction of flights. Not sure it is all of them.

″We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and will adjust our schedule as needed, United said in a statement. United operates about 12 flights a day from the U.S. to mainland China and Hong Kong, and the changes will cut that number by three or four per day. The changes reduce flights to Hong Kong from San Francisco and Newark; to Beijing from Washington Dulles, Newark and Chicago; and Shanghai service from San Francisco, Newark and Chicago.

This is not official yet. The website does not show HKG yet & I just got off the phone with an agent that would not let me change my return from HKG for 1/31. I imagine that it is a HUCA situation & some agents are showing leniency on a case by case basis.

I was on the phone with an agent last night and she said nothing she can do for HKG for now.

Thanks for heads up.

Question - would that mean if 1 leg includes HKG it qualifies for waiver? I am doing in March a EWR-NRT-CAN with a CAN-HKG-EWR return? Note - the there is a 10 hour overnight layover on the CAN-HKG part on the return.

Generally, yes.

word is in Chicago is a possible suspension of all flights to China and Hong Kong through March if it gets worst. Working on Pilot, FA, aircraft schedule if they pull the trigger.

Wow that is huge. I heard from reports they expect the worst of the outbreak to occur in late February / March.

ClaudiSTR Jan 28, 20 3:11 pm

HKG was just included on United website:
https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly...eptionPolicies

Allows rescheduling until February 29th, but no refunds (yet).

"The White House has informed airline executives it is considering suspending all flights between the #US and #China. #coronavirus"

Might not be up to UA.

WineCountryUA Jan 28, 20 4:33 pm

Wiki has been updated with the latest known situation on waivers and suspensions BUT the situation is very dynamic.

But let's please limit the wiki updates to announced changes -- lots of rumors floating around which may or may not become true.

Please alert the Moderators if thread title changes are needed
