No chance on jettisoning the MAX for good, as in, 0.0%. It's coming.

What this probably means is any new aircraft deliveries that have not been financed will be deferred. Guessing this refers to the 8 or so 787s planned for 2Q+ deliveries, along with any 737MAX the company anticipated delivering in 2020.

IAD PL capex is probably fully funded, so I doubt that'll be an issue. Any new lounges or other real estate projects are probably on hold.

That would mean zero ticket sales to Asia - maybe a typo?

Net bookings down 100%, so more cancellations than new bookings.

  • Net bookings to Asia and Europe (new bookings minus cancellations) are down 100%.
  • Gross bookings – new bookings only – are down 70% in the Pacific (so some new tickets are selling)
  • Gross bookings to Europe are down 50%
  • Domestic net bookings are down 70%, and gross bookings down 25%

No, you can still have gross bookings, but just as many cancellations.

Which is the case here. Gross bookings down 70%, net bookings down 100%.

United Airlines Domestic Net Bookings Down 70%

Today United Airlines President Scott Kirby has revealed just how much demand has dropped in recent days:

Domestically net bookings are down about 70% (which is calculated as new bookings minus canceled bookings)
Domestically gross bookings are down about 25% (new bookings)
Net bookings to Asia and Europe are down 100% (again, calculated as new bookings minus canceled bookings)
Revenue is expecting to be down 70% in April, and also down significantly in subsequent months

Bookings Down 70%

For some reason I can’t capture the URL on my iPad, but CNBC just posted a story that UA has reported their bookings are down 70%.

“United Airlines’ US bookings plunge 70% as coronavirus spreads”

I thought they would be down by maybe half, but 70% ? To me anyway thats jarring and is far more than in the weeks after 9/11.

This is unprecedented in my view.

Airlines worldwide have never seen anything like this.

Each of them needs customer loyalty at such tough times. Maybe United will soon realize that?
