There have been a lot of dd issues with waitlisting recently.
Upgrade waitlist / display / clearing issues since PlusPoints changeover
Thanks, Wine. i think I must have missed the Purchase button the first time I tried. It is now showing waitlisted. Thanks, too, for the other thread.

I had two similar experiences.

One was I requested an upgrade using PlusPoints on a CPU eligible route for a family member with lower status around the holidays. I have a screenshot showing that the request was completely submitted (the "you're all done" page). However, I noticed about T-20h that the person's reservation said only CPU requested. But the person was top of the list, so I just left it alone, and the CPU cleared. I never had any PlusPoints deducted. I also didn't think to check if the reservation said waitlisted immediately after I requested.

The other was that I requested an upgrade on a Polaris flight for myself. It is still waitlisted. On the web version of my reservation summary, there is simply no annotation about an upgrade. However, if I look at the app version of my reservation, it says an upgrade was requested. Strangely, the return segment, which I also waitlisted but at an earlier time, does show the annotation in both app and website. For all I do show up on the upgrade waitlist in the flight status display.

From your more recent post it seems maybe you had something different happen, but it might be wise to verify your PlusPoints "requested" tally to be sure it matches what you expect.

Thanks. I redid the request and it now shows all four segments as waitlisted and my PP total shows 40 requested, which sounds right to me. Rest assured, however, I check it again every day

An IT system enhancement we should love. If a CPU will clear they do not use Plus Points to put you on the upgrade list! jk Although that would be a nice enhancement.

Hah, it would be great if they'd do that. Theoretically I think it's not really complicated, but of course I can't imagine a reason they'd want to do it.

I believe I've seen some report here requesting and receiving RPU refunds when the flight is very empty and CPU would clear, but I never felt moved to try that.

Just maintaining another parallel list ( as the prioritization order would be different)

UA has enough complexity in the present system (which is not presently working well). And think of the challenges customers would make in such an environment. Just aking for more grief and complexity and maintenance overhead as changes occur -- as an airline exec, I would run in the opposite direction as fast as possible.

Family is considering a Newark > Tokyo, Haneda round trip in May. Why is is that when I search for 1 ticket in PremiumPlus it says that costs $2,800 round trip but when I search for 4 tickets in PremiumPlus that jumps to $3400 round trip per person?

Not to mention that 3 days ago it was showing $2,100 round trip for 1 person, and no PremiumPlus seats have been booked since then.

Because fewer than four seats are available in the lowest fare bucket, and all people on the same reservation must be in the same fare class (and, hence, inventory bucket). You can get some of the tickets at the lower cost if you are willing to book on separate reservations.

Inventory changes all the time, even without seats being booked -- or, it could be that you no longer meet the conditions for the $2100 fare (e.g., advance purchase). That'd be fairly unusual for something four months away, however.

Note that this works both ways: if you wait, the price could increase further -- or it could drop.

One answer is there may only be a few seats in a lower PP inventory, not enough for 4, so it is pricing all in a higher fare. United does report the fare class in the search.

You can not have passengers on the same PNR in different fare classes. You can purchases two sets of tickets, on a different PNRs, use the max number available in the lower fare class.

UA is regularly adjusting inventory and it can change day to day. There are 3 fare classes for PP and 6 potential combinations for a roundtrip -- which could lead to 6 different price points.

The factor the seatmap has not changed does not mean seats have not been sold and even without seats being sold fare inventory can change for a variety of reasons.

Turning on ExpertMode on the UA site can help provide more insight but will not change the prices.

Since I have some PP that will expire, I requested upgrades on a couple of CPU eligible flights. One flight cleared before the CPU window, so plus points were removed. The other flight is today--when I checked in yesterday, I was #1 on the upgrade waitlist. This morning, I found out that the upgrade cleared and PP were deducted.

Should PP have been deducted when inside the CPU clearance window? Back when we used RPUs or GPUs, they didn't deduct them if your upgrade cleared inside the CPU window.

Not true. After all, PlusPoints change your position on the list. If you hadn't used them, you might not have cleared. RPUs/GPUs worked the same way. Any that you got returned were a mistake / gift.

Hi,
I'm looking for some threads or specific forums for help with UA's refundable ticket policies (or what penalties I incur if I buy a nonrefundable ticket and end up that I can't make the trip). Couldn't find anything specific, but maybe someone could point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that PlusPoints changed your position on the list. I thought that once you were in 24 hours prior to departure that there was only one list governed by status and fare. But I haven't been keeping up with all the details for the last few years.

It depends upon your specific fare rules, but try: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...on-please.html ; feel free to post the fare rules if you have a specific flight in mind.
