Aircraft going to Roswell are prepping for “long term storage”, so it’s definitely on the table.

I just went through the widebodies and have the spreadsheet updated here on the widebody tab at bottom. I did see numerous aircraft coming out of what I had previously shown as stored while others are now being parked. Narrowbodies are somewhat updated to reflect parked aircraft at TPA, PDX and MSY. If anyone knows of different parking locations, please post it.

https://sites.google.com/site/united...polaris-update

The 77W, 78X and 772A fleet are moving the most, 788 and 763 moving the least and 764/772ERs in between with use. Cargo capacity is probably a factor.

Hopefully the transcons have good cargo loads as the seat maps are awful... I don't understand why UA doesn't cancel the narrowbodies in these markets unless they are bulked out as well - hopefully they are.

Looking at the ORD photos, some of those aircraft look "trapped" between other aircraft. However, I don't see any cowling covers that might indicate longer term storage. I would guess if the aircraft has been sitting more than a week, it would be in longer storage. Thanks to another site for posting these photos linked below.

It appears that the 78X and 772 are flying most of the p.s. flights. I think the cargo movement has a lot to do with why wide-body are flying. I will be on one of the 78X EWR-LAX flights next Sunday as I complete my transition and move to LA.

That whole “Green” contingency the House wanted to add to bailouts may be playing out naturally. As airlines shrink and retrench they sideline the less fuel efficient aircraft. Also the most fun on takeoff at SNA.

Of course that's what will happen. Airlines will ground/fleet exit inefficient aircraft. Of course, airlines may have to stick with older units and delay cancel new units, but mandating a switch out can only make things worse.
Political mandates that aren't at all related to the virus issue could only increase costs and red tape of an industry that will be struggling to return to profitability. You just have to wonder sometimes what ever happened to common sense and why a political agenda is placed ahead of common sense.

From what I read it, that regulation wouldnt become effective until 2050. Even if it passed, I'm fairly confident it would either become a moot point or undone by 2050. But yes, all this ancillary junk that gets included is ridiculous!

One of my predictions about this grounding is that UA reduces TCON frequencies and retires some / all pmUA 752s as a result.

Grounding less efficient paid-for aircraft that have recently had maintenance, in an historic era of low fuel prices, may make less financial sense than starting to take delivery of shiny new MAXs when they are un-grounded. I'll let the airlines do that math. Right now grounding anything they can probably makes sense.

UA and all airlines will have far too many aircraft for a while. The influx of secondhand A319s is less necessary now. While nearly all the 772s have had something major done recently (Polaris), I wouldn't be surprised to see that fleet trimmed down. The 772A HD fleet could go away (it's old), some more ERs could go domestic (32J/seatback screens), and the 763s could replace the 752 PWs on the TCONs with reduced frequency. I'm sure the route planners will figure it all out at the right time but it's interesting to speculate.

But my wildest idea is that UA should take all the newer 752s that DL and AA retire! Grab those 753s from Condor if they become available! Maybe DL's 753s although they have different engines. Long live the 757!

Totally realistic. I am expecting the following fleets to draw down/retire:

- 75K (757-222 fleet)
- 7 non-Polaris 763
- earliest 777-222 in domestic configuration
- Oldest A320, 737-800s approaching HMV
- 757-224 approaching HMV

If more dramatic steps are necessary, international 772s and Polaris-configured 763s will be stored/retired.

Part of the re-start will depend upon is how the demand responds. If premium passenger demand is weak, then the 752PW should go. While the 772As are older, I'm sure they are paid off and have huge passenger load capability.
I think UA should probably retire the oldest 6 non-Polaris 763s, but retain N674UA, which is 9 years younger.

If UA really wants to dump the 763, then why not take the new Polaris seats off the 14 oldest 2 class Polaris 763s and put them on the 764 fleet. Polaris seat count would be about 75% of what the 764 fleet needs.

UA has other options like transitioning the 7 non-Polaris 763s to transcons and/or moving the 764 fleet to Domestic/Hawaii w/o Polaris mod - they could in many cases replace some of the 772A fleet with added frequency support.

I'd love to see those Condor units, assuming they'd come soon as they continue to age. I don't think DL will retire their 757-300s, especially if they shrink in size with MD80/MD90 and 752 retirements.

N837UA exited LCQ 2714/25Mar, direct to ROW, storage, can't see if 12F mod complete

752:
N14106 sked to exit MI771/29Mar with 16/160 config and upgrades

772:
N206UA exited FTW 2587/25Mar in EvoBlu, now in IAH
N785UA sked to exit XMN 2691/29Mar with Polaris/PP

77W:
N2639U exited XMN manit 2692/28Mar
N2748U sked to operate in/out of HKG 2774/26Mar, then 2773/28Mar, non-stop to/from LAX, possibly a freight charter, but has ferry numbers.

It's hard to keep up with parked aircraft at UA hubs that rotate in and out of service.
