That said, the sCO 757s (IIRC, 40 because one was permanently written off beyond repair at EWR last summer after the landing gear and part of the frame gave out during a rough landing) are in the middle of getting a refresh with new Y seats, AVOD, and recovered J seats. I saw a few photos on another website and they look OK, but for whatever reason didn't decide to replace the ceiling panels (a pet peeve of mine) which is an easy oversight that makes the interiors look dated. If you get on one of these, it's easily a massive upgrade for Y pax but nothing special for the J cabin. Of course they're also better for the crew as they got new jump seats, placards, curtains, carpets etc.

Slightly off topic but is the Viasat KA similar/better/worse than Gogo 2Ku service? It seems Gogo 2Ku uses 2 separate antennas (TX/RX) instead of a single antenna for both and has a theoretical RX of 70Mbps, but I am having a hard time finding the specs for Viasat KA or I'm just looking in the wrong place. TIA!

Would these be the Shaheen and Bulgarian Eagle/Germania frames (4866, 4867, 4868, 4870)? They seem to have the same engines as the former CZ frames (IAE V2524-A5).
I can't imagine the Easy Jet frames are for parts since they have so many planned...and they have CFM engines.

Just curious about how it might make a difference with an engine that goes out of service .... would a CFM engine take longer to repair since I'm ASSuming United doesn't have spares stocked like they do for IAE?

So how does that "agnostic" engine work as far as spares and repairs and such go? Are they just on an engine support plan with the manufacturers, where they need to deliver spare parts?

In terms of support, 20+ CFM-powered frames isn't exactly "critical mass", so I wonder if UA might geographically isolate that fleet, at least initially, but the CFM56-5B is common model and parts are not difficult to come by.

As far as being agnostic, I was referring more to UA's ability to source additional used frames... in fact, when the deal for former EasyJet frames was first reported over a year ago, I had occasion to speak to Andrew Nocella briefly and he insinuated UA was in talks for more. "Talks" don't always pan out, but it affords greater flexibility.

Totally idle interest ... in my industry, we have manufacturer national parts depots, regional ones, “preferred customer” localized depots, and for those that really care, on-site parts depots. Does the airline industry work the same way?
