$249 worth 40 +P

Currently at 146 PQS with 3 segments booked for the remainder of the year putting me on pace to finish 2019 with 149 PQS. One segment short of 150 PQS and an additional 40 PlusPoints. I can upgrade two of these segments for a total of $253 which will get me the additional segment and secure the 40 additional plus points.

One of these segments is ORD-CLE (so not worth the $104 but whatever) and one is ORD-BOS (for $149). The other segment I've been CPUd so can't buy up.

I'm currently sitting on 260 +P set to expire in Jan 2021.

What would you do? Is $253 for 40 +P a good value in your estimation?

If you cannot use the additional 40 points next year, why bother to post here for opinions?
With this said, I would do it because I can use the additional points.

Meant mine are expiring Jan 2021 not Jan 2020. Corrected in the original post

If you think you can use the extra 40 PlusPoints, then it is, IMO, a reasonable price for the equivalent of 1 GPU or 2 RPU or the ability to upgrade a sub-W Polaris flight economy fare

Plus you are getting a guarantee upgrade on this trip.

I would do this personally, but the issue is can you make use of the PlusPoints

Depends on the route you might use the +Ps on. You could use the extra 40 +P to upgrade from lowest fare instead of buyingup to W. I'd say it's worth it if lowest fare to W is more than $200 .

I guess another option would be to SDC your existing flight to add an extra segment.

I would agree on SDC - ORD to BOS can easily be ORD-EWR/IAD-BOS.

App may not give you this option, but 1K agent can do it if the routing restriction is not violated. So, be prepared for a good excuse before call. I recently changed (SDC) from RDU-IAD to RDU-EWR-IAD. I just said that I wanted to leave RDU a few hours late.

Good luck.

Thanks for the SDC suggestion. Unfortunately, my schedule is pretty tight so I don't have a lot of slack for a connection. I think I'll pull the trigger and purchase the buy ups.

I was recently in a similar situation, and decided to pay $239 to do a gratuitous MSP-ORD-MSP turn on Boxing Day in order to get 2 more PQS and thereby get an extra 40 PP. I thought it was a really close call, particularly as in 2019 I did not use all my PP (but 2020 will likely be different due to personal circumstances).
