Woman Stung By Scorpion on UA Flight

Woman Stung By Scorpion on UA Flight from SFO

Story says UA1554 SFO-ATL on Dec. 5. Looking at flight status, it appears the aircraft came from PIT.

Bizarre!

Yikes. Can scorpions survive Bay Area winters, or is a UA FFer that's been riding around on the aircraft after originating at some warmer place where these creatures are common?

We don't have scorpions in the core bay area.

I live in Southern Oregon -- somewhat colder than the Bay Area -- and we have scorpions all over here. I seem to find them in our shoe closet every other week or so. They are not particularly harmful -- about like a bee sting.

Edit: now I'm remembering I once saw one while hiking on the "Dish" near Stanford. Saw a tarantula too, which was cool.

Veering OT, but scorpions live in arid climates, and I think it's too wet in the central bay area. You may see them in the valley, especially as you head south.

"It comes as a surprise to many people that Scorpions are found in the Bay area. "

(in 20+ years in the Bay Area I never saw one)

The TMZ photo looks like the California Forest Scorpion, which is what we have in our area. Could have easily stowed aboard somebody's carryon. I'm sorry to say, we have transported cockroaches back from Hawaii this way....

These DYKWIAs are so demanding:
I want an aisle seat.
I want a meal.
I want to not be stung by a scorpion.
