Wow! That is cutting it close! You buy a A fare (Premium Plus) and upgrade only clears at the gate when someone cancels a few minutes before boarding!

It was Friday AM and the plane was a 787-10 and there were 8 premium plus seats open as well. I was 5th on the list and was sweating that the display was in error. Not to worry they were all filled prior to departure.

5. 40 PlusPoints
6. Booked 21 days out

Hoping the return leg of this clears as well!

I've also cleared a couple short domestic PP upgrades already this year, just been applying like crazy trying to burn them before they expire (carried 80 over to April as well.) Prob not worth giving full details but here are the routes:

JAX > IAH > PHX (applied for a friend, all legs cleared)
LAX > SEA cleared 2 weeks out for an upcoming trip
IAH > ATL cleared at booking (this is the final leg of my GIG trip)

1. TPE-SFO.
2. 2/17/20.
3. R.
4. PE -> J.
5. 30 PlusPoints.
6. Booked 11/20/19, but not added to WL until 1 week ago, waiting for UA to issue me my 2020 1K PlusPoints.
7. Cleared 1/17/20.

I am batting 100% recently on these upgrades, SFO-TPE and vv., booking weekdays. On this flight, availability was PZ9 for a while, then PZ0. At this point UA decided to give me my 2020 1K PlusPoints. I go on the WL and a few days later availability back to PZ9. How nice is that.

1. SFO-LHR
2. November 2020
3. K
4. Y-->O
5. 40 PlusPoints.
6. Booked January 2020
7. Cleared time of booking

80 PlusPoints deducted because have also applied for Polaris (double upgrade)
Chose to book the K fare and then apply for the upgrade as the fare displayed for the upgradable fare was higher (known issue for some but still a surprise for others)

I searched for available upgrades. Saw what was available and then did the search by airfare only to book so I ended up with the less expensive airfares knowing there was RN and PZ space available. There was PZ available via IAH but that would involve me catching a MAX and it is not something I will do. Flights (return) to London on UA in November are sub $900 for K. I had to do the R fare for the return as I have run out of Plus Points. Well I have 20 still available and 80 applied for 100 unapplied but 2020 has been a good year for Plus Points (except for fares to SYD so found a different routing).

Since we know the list can be broken, do you think it could be worthwhile for people to also include their position in the waitlist at certain times maybe? Or at any time T-48? Just to get an idea how many people are clearing off the top, and how many from in the 10s, etc to see from where in the list people are clearing? Would be esp useful for aircraft with Premium Plus. Just a suggestion.

3. Date booked: 17 Jan
4. Fare basis: K
5. Y->J
6. 80 PlusPoints

Note that this itin also includes two domestic segments to get to SFO and only one has cleared. Second will not clear as I'm #12 of 70+ for 4 open seats

1. TPE-SFO
2. Flight date: 25 Jan
3. Date booked: 17 Jan
4. Fare basis: K
5. Y->O->J
6. 80 PlusPoints taken (20 confirmed so far, Y->O)
7. Cleared: into RN at booking (last RN seat). PZ cleared 36 hours before departure. I was #19 of 32 on the list with 43 seats open before upgrades processed.
Note that this itin also includes two domestic segments to get from SFO and only one has cleared. One cleared at booking and the other is going to fail (hub-hub) as I'm #8 for 4 open seats right now.

Only booked this cheap TransPac to use up my PlusPoints expiring this month. Still have hundreds left for the year.
