What benefits should GS get in new system?

With all the talk of things the 1ks should get in the new system which devalues GS the question is...what should GS get?

Iíd be happy if Iíd consistently get the benefits promised.
It has been a challenge recently to get a seat on the next aircraft after cancellations or delays.
donít even want to talk about preboarding

Just FT wishful thinking, GS is not being devalued by UA.

Pre-boarding is just standing in line. Once one person presents themselves to the gate agent, the plane is boarding.

If they really want to keep the GS paxs happy they probably should throw GS some kind of bone . My perspective of GS is limited but almost universally those who I have spoken to this year have said there has been a deterioration of benefits and service over the past year or two.

Not sure how 1K benefits eat into GS bennies? You mean if a 1K is CPUíed on day of departure and a displaced GS canít get a FC seat? Or what? We 1Ks are not holding up the Benz for you. Weíre not crowding the GS lobby. PN buckets are generally infinitely higher than PZ. The real enemy is the TODs that go largely to nonstatus fliers not allowing all, but some, GS to get CPUs. I think GS book in J on long-haul anyway?

Not sure what other 1K benefits are part of a zero sum with GS.

The real question is whether qualification requirement will be raised for GS as it has for 1K. Thatís an unpublished benefit so if I were counting on GS for 2021, Iíd try and give UA well in excess of $50K of biz as 2020 progresses. Guess weíll see in 2020 how this shakes out for GS.

It would be really interesting to know the numbers (or percentages) of people who qualify for GS by various ways:

"Earning" it through spend and UA flying

Getting it as part of a corporate travel contract or as a corporate travel manager

Getting it by generally being a VIP or celebrity

Getting it from 4MM before the change in rules

Getting it from 4MM mostly under the new rules

These groups make various contributions to UA and UA's profitability.

Love it - yes, Ďearningí it has several meanings for GS, including gifting from a 1MM or higher.

GS benefits IME tend to be more focused on the experience rather than a specific grant or reward.

For example earlier this year I was on UA for LAS > SFO > HKG where I was meeting a work colleague on SFO > HKG who was also a GS.

ATC delayed the LAS > SFO flight to the point we arrived at the gate at SFO when the SFO > HKG flight was scheduled to leave. A GS agent was there to meet me, escort me to the Merc, drive me to the SFO > HKG flight, and essentially allowed me to make the connection (as in as soon as I was onboard they closed the door, pulled back the jetway, and pushed back).

The point here is this is not a perk per se, but rather UA going the extra mile which allowed me to make the connection. That’s what GS is about IMHO, Yeah the upgrades and what not are nice, but the real key is the airline going to the extra mile to help you make the connection.

Itís a cool benefit & well deserved. If you read post #1 - the guy creating this thread - I just donít understand how 1Ks take away from the GS experience you relayed in your post. Is the speculation that 1Ks will also get the Benz in that situation and make it unavailable to the GS? I guess GS could feel their benefits are threatened when 1K qualification requirement suddenly becomes 50% of revenue to qualify for GS. I really just donít understand what is being asked in this thread.

Oh, and GS qualification requirements are not being raised from what we know - so why should benefits change?

I like that UA provisioned the resource to allow an empowered employee to keep track of GSs, follow up when appropriate, and execute (reasonable) operational maneuvers to help in a pinch. It's hard for me to speculate on what it takes to make this work, but if resources can be added to support both GSs and 1Ks I don't see anything wrong with that. Suspect something similar already happens (e.g. 1Ks getting the merc at times) but only after the GSs have been taken care of.

Another guess is UA is aiming to do this with their skip-the-waitlist feature (I think they were already doing this for GS as my WL’d flights with wide open Polaris cabins tended to miraculously clear within 24-hours of jumping on the WL) and I presume other aspects as well.

The key here is a focus on OPS to empower employees to hustle when needed to ensure the GS/1K gets to their destination as close to scheduled as possible as that generally what the high $ business travelers prioritize IMHO.

I won't be GS anymore since it's deteriorated so much. I recall when i first became GS it seemed like when i called they looked for a way to say yes. now it feels like they look for a way to say no, or to charge me more. thanks, goodbye.

I donít want any more benefits. I just hope they donít exponentially raise the minimum requirement like they did to 1Ks. I suppose since itís unpublished, weíll
never know.
